It would be winning basketball today. He’d be every bit as dominant now as he was back then, and the game would adjust around him (as in more random big men would be getting signed in order to guard him and foul him). The game would adjust around him, like it always does around dominant players.
What you’re saying about Shaq is the same thing you would have said about Steph in 2013. Shooting jump shots and 3s wasn’t winning basketball back then, until it was.
Context too. While he was being somewhat facetious, ppl overlook a key part of what Shaq said about the TMac/Kobe comparison last week: "Kobe was wide open because i was getting triple teamed"
In today's NBA, the elite teams do an even better job of clogging the paint, as they've had 2+ decades to adapt to zone defense. Plus all they do is exploit pnr drop coverage.
Even back then, there was a reason Shaq was getting swept out the playoffs every year for his first 7-seasons when ish got real. His immaturity and lack of focus aside,
His drop coverage was food against the John Stockton pick n roll (which was inside the 3pt line),
ppl questioned his conditioning as he got beat up the floor by Greg Ostertagt,
and of course he couldn't make jumpers or shoot freethrows. He never had a "jump shot".
Basically he was a dominant front runner through 3.5 quarters. Also got worn down over the course of a series and frustrated bc offensive fouls (with flopping) was a thing, so he couldn't just barrel over anyone anytime.
However, give him a top 3 player as his sidekick (Kobe, Wade) now all of a sudden he doesn't have to hit clutch jumpers, or make clutch freethrows, or be the dynamic go-to scorer like Hakeem, Robinson, Duncan, Dirk, Ewing, Jokic,, etc., are expected to be.
In this era but absent that dynamic all-nba 1st team caliber "sidekick"? Shaq would still be a statistical nightmare but it'd be Giannis 2.0. Often injured and 1st/2nd round flameouts.
I’d wager that most pro basketball players are hitting these type of shots in practice that they can’t do in games. Another reason why the bubble ring deserves an *

Why is it whenever i played using shaq on nba street he would fall into the abyss whenever i used the trick stick and was only good for alley oops and goaltending with two handed blocks.
He would power through all these frail centers! Even Jovic would get dominated by Shaq. The only question if he would be motivated enough to be Orlando Shaq or fat LA shaq on defense.
No, it would definitely still work in the current NBA. You would basically have 4 out 1 inside (Shaq). Shaq was great at passing out of double/triple teams and having everyone stretched to the 3 point line would provide Shaq with so much space in the post to operate and if/when he gets doubled there would be so many open threes for his teammates.
