They left because nobody went to the damn games and the team wanted a new stadium. Why come after new Orleans or okc, when other small market teams like Utah, Indiana, Minnesota, or even Memphis exist. Seattle has MLB and NFL. What makes them deserve another sports team? Just because they are a big city? Teams can survive in small markets. You have teams like the knicks barely hanging on and does LA really need two teams?
I think that those are the two smallest markets in the league. That's why I bring them up. Markets don't need two teams really in one sport.

ATL…overly
It's petty as fukk but I'm not mad about this :ehh:

As far as expansion back into Seattle, does Seattle have plans to create another stadium? One of the big issues for why the Sonics wanted to leave was that the team still had to play in Key Arena which was old as shyt. I know Seattle still has a huge fanbase that will support a team, but what is the city doing to make sure a team is supported? @Misfit @bangbreh @beejus

Well the Port of Seattle and the Mariners are doing their best to not have a arena built. At least not in the area where they have proposed. City of Seattle's Department of Planning and Development is supposedly going to come out with their findings if the area that has been proposed will effect the traffic of the Port in 3 weeks. The NHL wants to move to Seattle and has come out and said it, but they don't have a team available. Both the NHL and NBA want to see if a new arena is built, but the city doesn't want to build a new arena if there isn't any teams to fill it. So it's a waiting game.

they dont deserve a team, the team left because attendance was horrible

Though not great this is the Sonics ranking in the league when it came to attendance. Not in the upper echelon of attendance, but far from horrible. Teams like the Hawks, Bucks, 76ers, Magic, and Hornets have routinely had worse attendance. When teams are bad fans don't go to the games. Look at the Pistons, when they were playing in the conference finals and finals they were selling out. Since they've been bad they can't get fans there. Seattle is no different. They would have been going to see Durant and Russ play had they stayed.

I try and keep it to myself, but I hate OKC too. I hate watching them and knowing the only reason they aren't my team is because Clay Bennet stole them and Stern helped them.

Watch Sonicsgate brehs. This team was ripped from the city, no justifying it. Seattle was wronged.

I don't really respect the thunder tbh. That franchise should be in Seattle. I'm a Rockets fan whose team used to get ran thru by the sonics and I'm still salty about them moving. The nba stole one of our rivalries. I can't wait until KD leaves after his contract is up.

They left cuz the arena was old and had no luxury suites and the owner couldnt conn Seattle to build him a new one for free...

You are 100% right about the arena. As far as Clay Bennett though I don't think the non Seattle fans understand how much Bennett conned everyone including the NBA, Howard Schultz, and the city of Seattle.

http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/e-mails-reveal-sonics-owners-intended-to-bolt-from-seattle/

E-mails obtained by lawyers for the city of Seattle show Sonics owners were talking enthusiastically last April about moving the franchise to Oklahoma City — despite telling the public and the NBA they were still interested in keeping the team here.

The city cited the e-mails in a motion filed Wednesday in a New York federal court seeking to enforce a subpoena for NBA financial documents and other records.
On April 17 last year, team co-owners Clay Bennett, Aubrey McClendon and Tom Ward talked about whisking the Sonics away to Oklahoma as soon as possible even though it would mean breaching the KeyArena lease, according to the city’s motion filed in U.S. District Court in New York City.

“Is there any way to move here [Oklahoma City] for next season or are we doomed to have another lame duck season in Seattle?” Ward wrote.

Bennett replied: “I am a man possessed! Will do everything we can. Thanks for hanging with me boys, the game is getting started!”

Ward: “That’s the spirit!! I am willing to help any way I can to watch ball here [in Oklahoma City] next year.”

McClendon: “Me too, thanks Clay!”
