According to this video, rent can go from 800-1300. However, you can’t have gas for cooking or any open flames. The smallest apartment is 200 square feet

I hate the fact that we have to “adapt” and find innovate ways to live because a fundamental need has become just another speculative asset to be bought and sold.

I don’t want to live in no god damn mall tf:wtf:

I want to be able to bring hoes to the bungalow and drink beer with my patnas with the garage open on weekends.

I didn't watch this reaction youtuber video but I remember seeing the original video when it came out on CNBC 5 months ago.

I think it's a good idea personally. I wouldn't want to live in a mall though myself I rather be somewhere rural.

You know what's funny I think that was the original intention for mall to have people live in the mall.

We're going to get to the point where we start building storage facilities specifically for people just so they can have a shelter. There has been a dramatic increase of people living out their cars already. It's really a sad and broken system.

That was LITERALLY the point of the projects lol.

It provides housing to "undesirables" kept all the riffraff concentrated in one area, but living in one was akin to being trapped in hell.

Crazy how we're headed back toward that.

People need to realize that it won't be governments that solve this crisis. They can't pivot now it's us who have to break the mold. Housing doesn't have to cost this much and have huge entry barriers. We need solutions that come from the people. Then to make governing bodies accept them. They won't save the people. The way shyt is setup now anyone who is already a home owner is against reform because any meaningful reform would mean they might be on the losing end. We can't bring down prices. People worried bout their investments.

Description
While many U.S. malls face anchor store closures and empty parking lots, some are finding new life by becoming housing. Real estate developers are building housing inside of or next to shopping malls as department stores like Macy’s, JCPenney and Sears shrink or cease to exist. At least 192 U.S. malls planned to add housing to their footprint as of January 2022. Dozens of apartment projects at malls are underway in California, Colorado, Florida, Arizona and Texas. The trend not only helps to chip away the housing shortage in the U.S., but also brings people closer to the remaining retail and restaurant spaces in shopping centers. CNBC visited a Macerich housing project at Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, Colorado as well as the Arcade Mall in Providence, Rhode Island to find out what it is like to live inside a mall.

Description
CNBC Marathon explores how malls across the United States are evolving with the times.

CNBC visited a Macerich housing project at Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, Colorado as well as the Arcade Mall in Providence, Rhode Island to find out what it is like to live inside a mall.

U.S. adults make about 1.3 billion visits to shopping centers each month or about 62 trips per person annually, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. While some outlets, like malls, have struggled to retain shoppers, foot traffic to strip malls is booming. The U.S. has more than 68,000 strip malls from coast to coast, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers. So how did the U.S. become covered in strip centers, and could the format be the future of brick-and-mortar retail?

Despite a number of closures, U.S. malls are making a comeback, due in part to a surge in younger shoppers. Members of Generation Z, born between 1997-2012, are spending money in physical stores at a similar rate to their grandparents. Some of the top shopping destinations for Gen Zers include department stores like Macy’s, and JC Penney's, and specialty retailers like Express, Abercrombie and Apple. So can younger shoppers help save the traditional brick and mortar mall? CNBC went to Freehold Raceway Mall in New Jersey to find out.

Foot traffic to suburban shopping malls has returned to pre-pandemic levels and high-end malls are thriving. Yelp found that 17 out of the top 25 brands driving consumers to malls are restaurants, and the dining options for visitors have moved well beyond the traditional food court that would include chains like McDonald's, Chipotle and Panda Express. CNBC visited the American Dream Mall in New Jersey to see how dining has evolved at the mall.
