The Land That Time Forgot
Cultural appropriation is definitely not new. But I think the issue these days is that the relevancy of the Black artist is dwindling. Even going back to the 60s, 70s and 80s - yeah, you had your culture vultures and copycats but Black artists and musicians were still recognizable in the mainstream.

These days - you don't know who is what anymore.

The relevancy of black R&B artists has dwindled due to the death of black R&B/soul within the black community.

The evaporation of the old black music industry that gave us Motown, LaFace and Soul Train is also key to the dwindling.

There has been nothing established to replace it during the digital era.

In the past, Otis Blackwell was happy that Elvis sang the songs he wrote. He wanted to be properly credited and paid for his work and shine a light on his own music.

"Cultural appropriation" was not a thing to them as long as they had an opportunity
to express themselves. Motown and other black institutions provided that opportunity.

Explain why I'm wrong, ya'll do this shyt once a week. If Adele sells strictly off of the fact she is White, where are all the other white singers that sell like Adele? How many White R&B singers are there in general? Are there more Black R&B singers than White R&B singers(I'm certain their are) Why aren't Black people supporting them? Why don't young people like R&B anymore, Why do they have shytty taste in music in general?....

She right butttttt also the blame goes to these radio DJs and even the black executives in a lot of these positions who could make a change but money talks...kenny lattimore and Brian McKnight dropped some nice music and even jodeci a few years ago but it's 2017 and its a whole new demographics up in those label positions..

Same goes for TV

Nas was right Kill the DJ

But Stephanie you old artist is to blame as well, because ice cube was 100% right when he did a interview i believe it was on sway or big boy when they ask him why u don't hear from old R&B artist music or even samples in music today and he said " the main thing old artist R&B and old school rappers was getting a good amount of cash for a sample or duets in the 90s and early 00s but they started wanting 3 times as much from even new artist today and these new kids was like fukk that and fukk you " that's why we have division and the reason u don't have the old school artist names out here[/QUOTE]

:stopitslime:

What kinda soft ass shyt is this? Them OG's saw Hammer flying the whole East Oakland around the country on the back of Rick James blood, sweat, and tears and these rappers have the audacity to get upset when the OG's raise the price on them? Pay these peoples prices or shut the fukk up and create something original without the sample. That's not a legit reason to be on some "fukk that and fukk you" shyt.

You have to blame the machine, fam. This is the thing -- Adele's race is most definitely a privilege. I said this a while back about how these White "crossover" artists can get radio play on just about everrrrrry format known to man but Black artists these days are relegated to just Urban and rhythmic. I live in DC. That "Hello" song had a go go remix that was played on wpgc and wkys. But I bet you won't hear Keyshia Cole's new shyt on top 40 radio.

I don't think its a matter of us not supporting our artists. If you don't search the shyt, you probably won't even know most of these artists even have music out. That's a problem with the machine behind them not pushing them correctly. I follow all my favorite artists on IG, so I'm kept up to date when people like Jasmine Sullivan, Ledisi etc announce new music. But for somebody not into social media, what do they do?

She is speaking the truth. Many of us been saying this from jump street. As long as you have your Adele's and your others imitating the shyt we do, there'll be no need for Black artists anymore. Just watch.

didnt watch....

but this is bullshyt....

people by and large will support people that look like them.....

white people and in particular white women caused adele to blow up....

RnB music is dying or dead because:

1. it sucks, in particular the men in it....no subtlety...just straight 'i wanna fuq' :picard: type music

2. black people dont or wont buy music anymore....and if we wont support 'our' music....do you really expect 'others' to?

adele and sam smith are not the problem....

You can't say r&b sucks when SZA and MJB dropped two of the most critically acclaimed albums this year.

Like I told ol dude...people will support it when they know it's there. Most people don't even know Keyshia Cole dropped an album two weeks ago. That's not Keyshia's fault and it's not the fault of people that don't know it's there. If labels aren't promoting it and pushing it, how are we suppose to even know these artists have music out?

Some of the blame must rest at the feet of black people. Many of our so-called leaders, including in the arts, want so badly to be accepted within white circles that they will sell off the intellectual property that we spent generations cultivating. They have allowed our music to be absorbed by whites and diluted, removed of its cultural distinctiveness. White America has turned our music into a minstrel show.

Little Brother was prophetic.
