Doesn't most felonies get taking off people records after 7+ years anyway.

The only ones that always stays are like murder and rape.

That's different from state to state. Which is why some applications have that specified by the back ground check signature. Texas is 7 years

Nope. A criminal record can be a bargaining chip. It can show how much you've turned your life around.

Surely there is the initial lack of trust which is tough to overcome as you consistently prove yourself and its basically the game on 8 stars if your black but youd be lying by omission if you said I have a clean criminal record, but you spent 7 years in jail.

Good thread.

I think they should, there should also be programs available based on your time. Like roofing or becoming an electrician. With as many convicts as there are we could do so many things with them to help them better themselves.

They say it's rehabilitation, simply because you're removed from your habitat, but what good is it if your place now if it doesn't help you mentally.

For White Collar criminals definitely not
Definitely not. Them fools be the biggest criminals. We start wiping records willy nilly and everybody gonna want that. Crime = doing the time, and you get a report card for your troubles. Obviously its a sad situation for those who got railroaded by the law (trust me, got a family member who is facing some shyt...they did it though:francis:), but nah. Thoughts of a record is some shyt you should have in mind before you do dumb shyt. Can think of exceptions being made up until the age of 22 though. Some fairly innocent stuff can fukk up your employability royally.

A mistake is an accident. Like "oops, i knocked over a coffee mug" , not "oops, i knocked over a convenience store".

That was a choice, and you fukked yourself over. If you were a thief and I run a retail shop, i might wanna know this, cause there are plenty of brothas who didnt do that shyt who can fill this position. Its not about not wanting to give folks a chance, its about not being the sucker who gets taken when the new hire is in a situation and needs a quick comeup. He did it before, why not again and to me? Same for pedos, same for anyone with a history of violence. You really dont know people, but some papers can give you an idea what they are willing to do.

So when a nikka who cant get a job robs your mother and accidently shoots her, dont feel bad since according to you he doesn't even deserve to work at McDonalds.

I know right? Even if a person really wanted to redeem themselves, they couldn't.... not in the eyes of the average :mjpls: citizen

This whole thread reminds me of a situation with this older guy in my neighborhood. He was trying enroll in a program to get his GED. Because of his felony record from 20 years ago he couldn't get in. It made me question how fukked up the game is if once you get convicted that record can keep you from getting a job and from any program that might help you better yourself in any way. You won't qualify for government assistance and if you move in with a family member that is getting assistance it can be cut off if you're caught.

The way things are set up now every sentence is a life sentence because even if you get out you continue to be punished for your crime forever. Your options are so limited it's damn near a miracle if you don't go back.

I didn't say he didnt deserve to work at mcdonalds, im saying he should have thought of that shyt before he commited that crime:francis:

Aiight, he paid his debt to society. Cool shyt. Now its time to get a job. He need to embrace that shyt if they ask if he got something on him, and realize nobody owes him anything. Again, for the brothas who catch hell in he system on some bullshyt, I feel for them. However when you did a crime, you and your serve your time, what you get back is your freedom on the outside, not the freedom from what you did.

The same brotha that shoots my mom cause he cant find a job now, he might have went to prison for sticoing somebody up in the first place. Its in his character now:francis:I dont suddenly feel bad cause a fukkup does things fukkups do. Your talking to a dude who had a father who was banging and regularly in jail(now owns his own chauffeur service making a good living), and a mother who was left ass-out by the same father, and worked multiple jobs to keep the lights on, rather than doing the grimey shyt her peers were doing.

I worked 7 days a week, with the occasional double shift, earlier in the year to keep lights on, and them jobs werent easy to get. No, i dont feel sorry for a dude who "made a mistake" and now cant come up.

However, in the case of non violent offenses, there needs to be a ton of ways to get that shyt off the records, cause not all crimes are equal. Brehs out here getting lives ruined over pushing dope :francis: that shyt aint cool.

:russ:Silver spoon? Mothafukka, I didnt know what a silver spoon was till i could afford one this year:francis:

I cant tell you how much debt I have currently that dates back over a decade. My family was scratching to live something resembling middle class, and we paying like hell for it now.

Aint not sob stories strong enough to get me to care, breh. Pops wasnt around (still aint), we lived ok but moms health is shyt from working so hard all the years. Im in Chicago, breh. I at any time could have gotten work and the means to protect it, but I know im not about that nor can I be part of the problem, and then switch up womdering why folks wont give me a chance. Im not old so this aint hindsight, fam. I had to make the choices everytime I as presented with a situation, and everytime I chose to grind harder:francis:
