The closer we can get to the Nordic European nations the better. They actually support the working class over there.
These countries have free Healthcare, free college, actual welfare, 4 day work weeks etc. THOSE are the true best countries in the world. America is SO trash compared to them. Americans don't realize just how terrible this place is.
Af this point I wouldn't work any job that's 5 days a week straight up. 4 days even feels too much for me. 3 is the sweet spot. The 4 days I work is 2 days on, day off, another 2 on, then 2 off.
Nope not at all. It will be better for the environment and our long term prospects of survival. The global economy basically needs to scale down until we get this climate crisis (and myriad number of other environmental issues) under control. This infinite growth concept is what's destroying our world and will inevitably result in collapse.
1-2 day work weeks are a pipe dream but it would lead to overall human happiness and help stabilize things. The amount of work we do now is completely unnecessary and absurd.

Now which of those three things even sounds good?

People don’t consider how we got here. The 5 day 40 work week is already a compromise between businesses and workers that’s really not that old at all. Prior to it there were no limitations on how many hours or days you had to work to keep your job. People would get Sunday’s off because in the land of religious freedom it was expected everyone was Christian (and would revolt if they customs weren’t respected). 5d/40hr really never was intended to benefit the worker.
Lastly businesses collectively have no issue standardizing what surrounds certain roles, traditionally reserved for the bottom rung of society, For everybody. Meaning America that had a true to life slave class isn’t getting rid of the roles slaves played, instead they’ll broaden who can fill those roles. This is how we get tipping and other dumb sht that only Americans do.

You have to be work at all times
You have to work for someone at all times no matter what is being asked of you.

It really didn't take all that long for earth to get this bad, relative to human timescales. We existed on this planet for hundreds of thousands of years before we started this relentless campaign to plunder natural resources.
I don't how long it would take for us to curtail global warming to something manageable. Earth is pretty resilient so I can imagine it wouldn't take too long if we just let things be.
I agree that employees owning a stake in their companies stock and reforming the stock market would be beneficial. I just fail to see how it would mitigate global warming in a timeframe relevant to averting the worse effects.
American companies care about metrics and numbers.........
Right up until it benefits employees and it's something employees actually want. If you told a company that raising pay, 4 day work weeks, extra PTO and WFH would make the company $$$$.....they'd be like .....they'd rather make less money and stick to what makes employees unhappy.
My thinking is that companies want a certain amount of turnover. The longer people get rooted in their jobs, the more specialized knowledge the gain and the tougher it is to replace them when they retire. You end up with a lot of folks that know everything on a particular subject but haven't crosstrained others.
Most firms want a decent employee turnover and then press really hard on middle management to fill in the gaps for the new hires.
