They wouldn't even leave the precinct without a gun. Guns are the most efficient way for them to threaten and kill black people. To answer the thread, yes they should be unarmed. Give them all billy clubs and tasers. They don't need to be out there engaging people with death on their hips. They've proven they can't handle that.

I think they should be armed and they should wear more protective gear (even for simple traffic stops). BUT at the same time, they should be held to a much higher standard and if they kill someone it should be a BIG deal. "I feared for my life" should never be an acceptable excuse for killing an unarmed person or a person with a knife. Isn't that what a taser is for? They should face murder charges for that type of behavior.

I always wonder, the way cops shooting people cause they fear for their lives, can I also shoot a cop cause I fear for my life? The next time I get pulled over, it might be my last time alive...would that be a good defense?

UK has armed units but every cop doesnt need a gun. When the situation calls for it they radio for an armed unit to come.

Gun ownership legal and illegal and astronomically higher in the US than in the UK .

This is dumb .

The problem isnt guns .Our police force differs from other countries in a more important way .I heard a excop describe it best .police in the US are trained to be warriors instead of protectors. In the US, cops are trained like an occupying military force while no other country besides maybe brazil train their police in this way. It sets a confrontational nature to police force. Seems to stem from bad policy meant to battle gang issues .
