should black history month include entire diaspora or should it be kept strictly African-American?

reason i ask is im reading an article and the writer ended it mentioning how his friend's son picked Roberto Clemente as a subject for a black history month, but was told Roberto Clemente wasn't black.

how do ya feel? should it be strictly about AAs? i respect however ya feel i just wanted to spark a discussion.

I think Black History month should be whatever people choose to make it. With that said if you're really into "black history" you're going to be seeking knowledge/resources or whatever on a daily. Like you're not going to wait until February to get your black facts in.

The purpose of it wasn't to teach black history just in the month of February. It was created to give black people an opportunity to display what they've been learning about black history the entire year. That includes blacks not just in America, but all over the world and us learning about ourselves wasn't supposed to just be during that week because we should have been learning about ourselves all year long.

The craziest part of the whole thing is now you got black people complaining about what they're being taught during black history month when it was created by us and for us. Black history month should be a month long celebration of our history with fairs, presentations, speakers, block parties, etc.

But instead you got black people complaining about white people only GIVING US the shortest month of the year to celebrate ourselves

yea ya definitely right. i had 2 very afrocentric teachers in grades 4, 5 n 6 so i was lucky enough to learn a lot during the course of the entire year in those grades, but not everybody grows up going to school in harlem so thats where i think the importance comes in. a kid growing up in a mostly white town doesnt get to learn shyt about black history until february. hopefully that month is enough to launch him on a whole lifetime of self discovery.

Ur question doesnt make sense. The history of African Americans dont start in the slaveships. Black history as a whole is AA history as well. And the particular AA experience is just one facet of the greater black history. Theres no seperation between the two.
