Should I call a potential employer after an interview?

I had an interview last week with this firm for an engineering technician position here in Atlanta. It was real laid back, probably the most chill interview i've ever had. The manager was a black dude and we talked about the position, the requirements and I asked a ton of questions. He said he would call me by the end of this week to let me know of his final decision. Do yall think he would be impressed if I called and showed initiative by asking him if he has made up his mind, or should I just chill?

Do you guys usually let things play out after interviews or do you call in to check on your status?

No, don't call, he said he'd let you know by the end of the week-give him his time to speak with other candidates and make the decision. Don't add more pressure just send a thoughtful Thank you email.

What should the email say?
Thanks for the interview?

Thanks for your time + answering my qs, throw in something he said to you about the role/culture, follow-up materials if you have any (I usually do) - looking forward/hoping to continue in the process, etc. Keep it a few sentences max unless it was a long ass call.

Send the thank you email and if you don't hear back by the end of the week or next Monday, you can follow up more directly with a call

How does this sound?

Dear Mr.——-

I want to again thank you for the chance to interview with ——- last week and I enjoyed learning about the company and position.

I would like to again reinforce my ability and willingness to learn whatever is needed to help make ——— successful and grow as a company.

Although this would be a entry level position for me, my interest in this industry along with my experience working long hours in all types of weather in the military will make me a perfect candidate for this position. I look forward to hearing from you later this week on your decision.

I've never sent a thank you email never saw the need since i thank them for their time at the end of it anyway. If you are the best choice out of their options the gig is yours.
No thank yous from me until you've made me a fukin offer

Right, if you are in demand and blow them away with your skills at the interview, you don't have to do all the little stunts. They will rush to get back to you and hurry up and try to get you in before another company grabs you.

Absolutely call them back. In calling them back, be certain to thank them for their time and don't be thirsty or an a$$hole about it.
