A Network Engineer is just a generic title. The key to increasing your pay potential is to specialise in a specific skillset. The city you live in plays a huge role too like living in LondonI thought the salaries would be higher perhaps on par with investment bankers/equity/quant guys and the like

I guess it depends on your city but in London the average pay for Network Engineers is something like 60-70k.
If you dont practice a programming language then thats probably why you think the pay isnt as good as you'd expect.
