its hard to be innocent in identity theft crimes, b. You just don't accused of that.
OP... I might have to say yeah just off the fact cats never recover from it
I'd bet every form of crime has had at least one person falsely accused and in cases where you're talking about killing someone who may be innocent, not sure I'd advocate that as a form of punishment. Plus, just like any other hustle (see: drugs), most people getting caught are just pawns in the game.
I purchased three $500 Visa gift cards this past year and two of them were compromised. One of the replacement cards had my name on it and that one was also compromised. The hoops I've gone through just to get my $1500 back in the past year has been extraordinarily maddening, but the a$$holes who stole my money probably just purchased the numbers from someone else and are just a$$holes. I wouldn't want them to die. Granted, that's not an extreme case of identity theft that ruins someone for years, but nevertheless...
And the entire topic is nothing more than intellectual masturbation because I know from working cases like these and being a victim of cases like these... law enforcement doesn't care. It happens way too much. And even if you allow for death penalty cases here... much of the work is happening abroad.
