Violent entertainment has been around, and this magically doesn't happen in other countries with the same access to the same media we got. Before video games it was hip hop, and before hip hop it was rock n roll. VGs are just the next scapegoat

Those other countries DONT have lax gun laws though. You can’t buy an AK-47 in Australia, Japan, Canada or the UK. It’s not a good comparison.

In America you have access to violent entertainment + 2nd rights gun culture + readily accessible guns everywhere. How is there no linkage here :patrice:

For people disagreeing, why we didn’t we see mass school shootings while our parents and grandparents were in school in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s & 70s? If violent games/tv/movies have no effect here, then there should have always been mass shootings at schools but that obviously wasn’t the case. What changed between then and now?

Guns are still easy to get
Social Media took bullying to a new level
Decades long lack of public school funding removed proper counseling
Mental health treatment over reliant on pushing pills and not on therapy/wholistic
Kids don't throw hands no more
Parents not knowing shyt about their kids really

i played GTA: III when i was 8 and i turned out just fine :manny:

For every 10,000 kids...9985 kids will turn out fine. But those other 15 kids :patrice: Im just saying if there’s no correlation there, why was the idea of a mass school shooting unthinkable in 1965? Out of nowhere (starting in the 90s), it’s become a huge problem. Something caused it. Everybody’s saying there’s no correlation there but 7 year old kids weren’t getting shot to death in 1970.

No that's my point exactly

The guns are the problem

People snapping and going on a killing spree happens in every country on earth the only difference is in America, that guy only needs about a minute to kill 10+ people.

The Vegas shooter was only active for 6 minutes.

It’s not just the guns though. People could buy guns in America in the 50s, 60s and 70s too but it wasn’t as many mass shootings. Particularly at schools. It has to be something else.

I'm kinda torn ( I have no kids btw), I wouldn't want my children playing with toy guns or playing violent video games. In an imaginary world i'd love to shield them from all forms of violence towards all creation.

But, in reality I know that's not possible and if anything, my hindrance would probably encourage them to run to it out of curiosity :to:.

I can just hope that I can balance love with the violence that they'll unfortunately see, and maybe they'll see that empathy, love and understanding comes first and can trump violence in all forms.

Mass shooting is a loaded term first of all.

50's 60's 70's, 80's AND 90's were an order of magnitude more dangerous than America today. Which is ironic because violent video games only started cropping up beginning in the 90's. But gun violence went down?

So what happened

Well for one exposure increased. This doesn't seem like much but really what I think happened is that it gave a platform for the mentally unstable to express themselves.

It sounds INSANE to say that, but you're dealing with people who have gone insane. It doesn't make sense at all but that's what I believe. Unless the devil himself is randomly possessing people for fun. That actually makes more sense than a retired white millionaire deciding to wake up one day from his penthouse and start slaughtering people

Hell i say living an isolated life contributes a hell of a lot more to shyt like tht than a fukkin game. It's hard to build up an extreme ideology in your head to even get to tht point if you're grounded in reality, busy building meaningful relationships with others, etc.

Its not the main reason but it has played a role In desensitizing us.

My 4th graders would tell me they play GTA and I just shake my head and tell em you’re not supposed to play that game until you are 21.

Parents need to be more involved in their kids lives and not just turn them lose to let them watch whatever they want on the computer or play video games
