It seems impossible to fix the system so I think the only hope would be to work around the edges.

Statehood for Puerto Rico and D.C.

Split California into two states, with San Fran in the northern half so both sides are still firmly liberal.

Split Florida into two states so you get a liberal southern part and a conservative panhandle.

That would split Florida's seats and then add 6 more liberal senators, it would be enough to make the Senate at least somewhat more closely approximate the will of the American people. So for instance, instead of being 53-47 republican this last term, it would have been 55 to 53 Democrat.

David Birdsell, dean of the school of public and international affairs at Baruch College, notes that by 2040, about 70% of Americans are expected to live in the 15 largest states,” Seib wrote. “They will have only 30 senators representing them, while the remaining 30% of Americans will have 70 senators representing them.”
This is likely what minority rule is going to look like going forward. The only to reform the system you need a Democratic supermajority which isn’t going to happen since Dems are losing the rural vote at wider margins in every election.

i see the purpose of the senate, but this is the problem; the house should be the powerful chamber, not the senate

if the senate existed but was the weaker half it would lessen how undemocratic it is

dems need to add DC :yeshrug:

it is fukk states...nothing about the way the US operates is a union of states. if we really wanna be states, let's stop having productive states subsidize unproductive states. let's all maintain our own military, let's stop paying federal taxes. let's just be a loose body that comes together for international coordination and mutual defense
If this happened the poor whites in the bumble fukk states would leave them shyts so fast:russ:

The biggest problem: the Senate is far more powerful than the House.
Senators confirm presidential nominees for courts, agencies and departments, while the House can only watch. They can filibuster bills, requiring 60 votes to pass.
They also serve 6-year terms, while reps have to defend their seats every 2 years.

Small states in the Senate have too much power against the population representing chamber. That needs some addressing.

Again, the only options are increasing the size of the House AND removing the electoral college.

Theres nothing wrong with the US Senate....

or you remove statehood? i mean i dont see the issue here.

california used to be a republican strong hold...until it wasn't...

or as more liberals move south, the south is getting more liberal...

I like the idea of a slower and more deliberative upper house of government...thats on our terms.

the real problem is the voters and until you fix that... all these little tricks won't amount to much.

Puerto Rico, yes

DC, hell no.

Please stop pushing for DC statehood. The idea of federally neutral land is an amazing concept and needs to be preserved. Plus, we already control it politically and socially.

IDC if cali and florida split... because it won't fix anything.

all this maneuvering is just evasion from electoral politics and winning on winning issues and framing.

The issue is the voters.
