and what's the modern reasons we shouldn't be more of a nation than a union of states? this union of states thing doesn't work in today's world, especially when half the states depend on the workings of a nation to stay afloat. only about 5 states could survive as their own entities. we are a nation, people can fight it with outdated constitutional ideals all they want, but if states like CA, TX, NY, FL, IL, PA are subsidizing the nation and have the largest populations, they absolutely should have more power.



you'd have a point if senators were affecting state politics, but they don't. small, economically unimportant populations have a disproportionate influence on how we move as a collective. this is like letting u-god make the decisions for wu tang when you got way more important members in raekown, ghostface and meth

No. I know it's not exactly fair to large states, but senators are there to represent states, not populations. Unfortunately, the Senate has too much power. There needs to be a reform of Senate rules to prevent what McConnell is doing.

The problem is that Senators no longer represent state interests. They represent party platforms.

plus with more members, you get smaller constituency sizes thus more politicians in tune with their communities.

The average rep is 750K people. Thats more than some states.

Yes, fukk the states if they come first to the detriment of the people as a whole. Back then it took months to go cross country and every state had their own unique individual issues but that isn’t the case today.
we are all interconnected and you can go from coast to coast in hours and communicate in less than a second.

Republican senators aren't even voting based on state interests now anyway, they're just doing whatever the fukk Mitch and Donald tell them to. It's 100% centralized power.

I think its the other way... currently black voters hold enormous sway.
Seeking a majority rule system when your 12% of the pop seems like a deathwish.

Black voters don't have a significant voice in the election of a single Senator.

White rural conservative men are something like 5% of the population yet are the primary decision-makers behind 30-40% of our Senate seats. ALL Black and Brown persons combined are over 25% of our population yet aren't the primary decision-makers behind a single Senate seat.

And you think a system partitioned evenly by population would be less fair.
