Google should be broken up

Facebook needs to be regulated in terms of news/bias

Twitter seems fine and an open platform atm

Amazon is a shytshow and needs more regulation

Please elaborate what Google needs to be broken up into?

What exactly do you mean we should regulate Facebook for bias? Is not most of the content user generated? Is there a substantial difference between twitter and Facebook for people espousing opinions? How would we regulate Facebook? If you support regulating Facebook for bias, how do we decide what the bias is? If we regulate Facebook, are you also in favor of bringing back the fairness doctrine and expanding it so that we regulate all media where there’s bias?

What exactly are we regulating on Amazon? They sell goods. They provide an online marketplace for other people to sell goods. And they have a tv service. They pay all appropriate and enforceable taxes. What are we regulating?

What’s your opinion on the AT&T and Time Warner merger? Should we not be worried about 1 company controlling wireless, broadband internet, and a media branch. It seems like they own the means of production and delivery. Is that not a bigger problem than Facebook?

Yeah, I'm not sure how you break up facebook/twitter:patrice:

They'll probably just get regulated like media companies.

Facebook and Twitter need regulations mostly in regards to data collection/distribution. They also need to be regulated more similar to media companies. Its pretty evident that both platforms were used to influence(sometimes illegally) the election and these platforms dominate the online social market. Both platforms are slowly becoming utilities similar to phone/electric/gas companies. ISP's should be utilities first and foremost but after that I think there will be certain large websites that will also be utilities. FB is basically the modern age phone book. So yes, I am in favor of the fairness doctrine being applied to FB, Twitter, CNN, NBC, Fox, etc. Our media is a fukking joke and the extreme partisanship is dividing the country. I'm in my 30's so I remember a time when CNN was the best news on the air because all they did was give neutral positions on news and actually showed both sides of the argument.

Amazon does a lot more than what you listed including cloud services, working with the CIA, and lets not forget Bezos owns media companies like the Washington Post. They also destroy markets by taking on huge losses in order to gain market share and really dominate that market. They take financial losses for years while gaining HUGE tax benefits and we pay for that. Thats tax revenue thats not coming into the public sphere. We are sort of subsidizing them to take over markets. And on another note, Amazon is basically a re-sale market for Alibaba products now. IMO, they may have an unfair advantage over other retailers.

The AT&T merger should never happen. We need more competition in telecom, not less. And we need states and towns to fight back and have the ability to build out their own fiber infrastructure. The best internet in the country is in towns that manage their own fiber.
