If you aren't making a defensive basketball play ie: defending the person or ball, should getting in the way of an offensive play be allowed?

Natural charges I agree with as the player being defended tries to go through the defender instead of making an offensive move around the defenders position. Standing with your hands at the sides or covering your groin is not my definition of a basketball move.

Essentially getting in the way is a defensive tactic and takes away from the excitement and competitiveness of the sport.

They would have to balance it out by being a lot more lenient in calling fouls on players contesting shots. Currently if you jump at the same time as an offensive player chances are you're getting called for a foul even if the offensive player initiated the contact.

I would love to see them do that though. Call a lot less charges and just make it a no call.

Then Lebron would be even more deadly when he dribbles with his head down flying down the lane. Instead he's going to run towards guys to bowl them over.

So you want to eliminate help defense? You think that would be better for the sport?

Standing in front of an offensive player is defense. I guess don't know what you want a defender to do...just allow any player penetrating an open lane?

Why don't you just go watch SlamBall and let us enjoy basketball.

With the ways the rules are it's crazy not to try and draw a charge. I wish they rewarded good contesting of shots more or didn't automatically call a charge on those plays though. If an offensive player jumps into a defender that is set and it throws off his shot just make it a no call since the offensive player created the contact.

But to me it's way too dangerous of a play sliding in under someone about to jump trying to draw a charge.

Dwight wouldn't need post moves. Lebron will dunk on nikkas family. Kevin Martin would average 9 points a game. Shaq will come out of retirement and put up 20. Na... na man.

Eliminating charging =/= Eliminating offensive fouls

The charge is a dangerous play that gets people hurt. There are too many plays where guys are sliding underneath a guy who's in the air already trying to get the call.

Take charging out of the equation and you have more shots being contested. No more centers trying to draw charges on PGs shooting floaters.

Why is it so hard to just imagine players playing honest D without having to fall on the ground in order to get a call?

LOL @ help defense being standing like a statue.

Imagine you get jumped by a bunch of chumps only to have ya boy stand still with his hands over his crotch talkin bout "he got weak side"?

Standing in front of a player is not defense, you are neither defending the ball, the player nor the basket as a matter of fact you are getting in the way of a basketball play.

Like I said I agree with a natural charge of an offensive player bowling over the defender, but these nikkas electric sliding into the lane instead of stripping the ball or defending the shot...
