I just can't get past the idea that getting in front of a player isn't considered defense.

That is literally the foundation of defense...in damn near every sport ever.

I mean, a tweak to the rule requiring the defender to be there sooner might work....but getting rid of it entirely is batshyt crazy. It would essentially eliminate any help defense or defensive rotation.

In all honesty, it wouldn't even lead to more exciting basketball, because defenses would learn quickly that the best defense would be playing well off the offensive player and giving them midrange jumpers all day. It would be preferable to allowing them to drive and dunk all night.

And the game would be ugly as shyt. Professional basketball shouldn't look like afternoon pick-up games at the park.

:dead: @ dude who said "strip the ball".....just straight up telling cats to play shytty defense now?

I disagree.

I think NBA players playing honest D would be much more entertaining then what the charge offers to the game. How many times do you see a guy go for a charge because of how the league is called now instead of just jumping and contesting a shot at the basket?

Again, I don't see how good rotation and team/help defense isn't "honest D".

That is honest D.

I'm not understanding how you figure removing charges eliminates players from rotating and committing to help defense though.

Eliminating charging =/= Eliminating offensive fouls

The charge is a dangerous play that gets people hurt. There are too many plays where guys are sliding underneath a guy who's in the air already trying to get the call.

Take charging out of the equation and you have more shots being contested. No more centers trying to draw charges on PGs shooting floaters.

Why is it so hard to just imagine players playing honest D without having to fall on the ground in order to get a call?

You mean...b/c the game isn't already geared toward giving the offensive player an advantage?

I mean what was Candy Man Odom thinking

you say the game would be ugly.. have you really been paying attention? I'm watching these games and cats are falling all over the place. Defensive and offensive players falling and sliding all over the ground. They need to start handing out sports Oscars. That shyt is ugly and dishonest.

That's 1 side of the coin.

There's a lot of bad flopping involved with guys trying to draw offensive fouls as well. It's up to the refs not to give guys those bullshyt calls like in those gifs though...
