i don't think she should get fired but definitely disciplined. maybe make the teacher explain her actions to the class and to the girl. and suspend the girl.

on a human level i'm siding with the teacher. and i understand at some point when someone physically assaults you, you reach your breaking point emotionally. but at the same time, she is a teacher. no one knows the class but i'm willing to bet she let a lot of shyt slide from the class because she was trying to be cool and "choose her battles" before it got to that point. when i was in high school, i remember every class had its troublemakers, its quiet kids, its class clown, etc, and while they were the same in every class, the troublemakers knew to what point they could take it depending on the teacher. so say with one teacher they knew they could punk him/her to their face while in the next teacher they knew the max rebellion they could do is do fart noises while the teacher was in the hall. but that shyt has to be established early on. the troublemakers have to be identified EARLY and made examples of EARLY on. as soon as they try to click their pen repeatedly while the class is quiet just to test you, you gotta check them hard and in a way that makes them look stupid.

There is never an excuse to try to fight a child for throwing a book at you. If you dont have the temper to deal with kids from the hood then change jobs. You nikkas sounding like racist white folks with some of these comments. You acknowledge that these kids tend to have behaviour problems but its deeper than bad parenting. When you live in the hood there are thousands of systematic variables from your environment that shape your personality.

you obviously don't have kids. stay out of grown fold business

This is why I could never be a teacher.
I might not have gotten her then and there, but best believe I'll see her on the streets....
I'd fail her ass too...
For that matter, why is she even in school? You don't learn how to be a welfare hood rat in high school.

So on one hand you guys are saying the teacher is justified because kids in the hood act like this every day. On the other hand you guys want to act high and mighty because you were fortunate not to be a problem child. The thing is some black kids in the hood are crying out for help. For every person like you who came out the hood with no problems there are five other people whose father is in jail, momma is a crack head/prostitute, gets molested on a regular basis, etc. These kids arent acting out for no reason. You guys are mad at the product, not the conditions that created the product.
I like the way you think. I agree to a huge extent. One of the first things I learned about teaching, and especially behavior management is to look beyond the behavior and look at the motivation. For a lot of students, school is the only place where they can be safe, encouraged and built up. Lord knows they aren't getting that anywhere else. That being said, I won't pretend to know what went on in that classroom, but if the teacher went off like that, I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that its not the first time that that young lady has acted up, nor is it the usual level of incorrect behaviors that we see from inner city youth.

another thread where suburbanites expose how out of touch they are

I really have no idea why you would want to teach teenagers in the hood anyway :scusthov:
Because I'm from there and I see myself and many of my homies in all of the kids that I see everyday. :stopitslime:
God forbid I wasn't lucky enough to have some of the great teachers that I had. :blessed:

I want to teach in the hood :yeshrug:

She will be fired soon.
first off all she's dumb for arguing with a student. You cant win that chit! :snoop: Write her up and be done with it. She should have known the deal when she saw at least 2 camera phones come out. I've dealt with some disrespectful teens. I just had a run in this week. I know not to argue with a student, especially when they feeding of the energy of their peers for little giggles and chuckles. She wasnt defending herself, she was retaliating. big difference
Respect, boss. :salute:
And yeah, she should not have let it get to that point, but again, we do not knowing what was happening in that classroom before the camera started rolling. Not condoning or condemning.
She definitely ought to be reprimanded though.

Havent read the thread so I don't know where its heading, but that teacher needs to be fired. You could argue the student had it coming, or provoked it, or whatever, but it doesnt matter. That teacher did more than just defend herself. shyt, based on what she said alone she needs to be fired.

Adults are adults, kids are kids. A teacher needs to be able to keep their cool at all times around other people's kids. If you can't, you're out. Not saying its always fair, but it's just the way it is. Assuming you tagged me because of the racial implication but I'd say that regardless.

I grew up in the hood. One of those left behind to rot after integration. Old habits died hard. :mjcry:

I don't feel personally that the teacher should be fired. But, the sad part is she eventually will. Educators in my opinion, but more importantly educators of color already have the arduous task trying to uplift and teach their people, they must also serve as the disciplinary figure of that child on a daily basis. That's a problem that I have. Generation after generation is becoming more discourteous to their elders. I grew up in a household where my parents didn't tolerate none of their children disrespecting an elder, whether they were right or wrong. There's a time and place for everything. I love my people to death, especially the young people, but we must honor and love what came before us.

The family of that young girl should have made a public apology to that teacher because that's not the behavior that I would want my child to conduct themselves in any environment especially around an elder. We cannot condone these actions of our young people.

Damn she kinda thick though

:dead: at these posts being back to back
