Either some of you are clueless or the math requirements have really changed since I was in school. Back in the gap you took math classes practically every semester if you majored in computer science. :wow: Yes it's algorithms once you are in the field but while you are in school you will take a lot of math. If you aren't good at math you will struggle under a computer science curriculum don't sit up here lying to this dude just because you're a math guru yourself.:stopitslime:

:usure: Since when?

i never hated math, that's why i was able to get through CS..i had more of a hard time with chemistry/biology than math honestly :yeshrug:

math is just a lot of practice and formula memorization imo, not saying it's the easiest shyt in the world :whoa: linear algebra got a little wild, but it was nothing too crazy

Would you say that math in Computer Science is not that difficult ?
Computer science so far for me has been understanding how to code programs and understanding algorithms.

Reading some textbooks and watching YouTube videos will get you to understand the material. Plus lots and lots of coding.

nah bro, it must have changed then. The computer science department at my university is hard af and you only have to take pre-calc, cal 1, 2, and linear algebra.

And I'm sure you can take a placement test to not take precalc and whatever else.

As a person who's fresh in the game.

Where could I start and what I could I read to build algorithms?
Watch all of the videos in this guy's playlist. Videos are short and he's funny/entertaining:

PS this is just for Java. You have to know other programs also like C, C++ etc.

Install eclipse on your computer/laptop and watch his videos first tho.

Do you think you should major in computer science if you were bad at math in high school ?

:ohhh::ohhh: I know somebody who was in a engineering club in high school but sucked at math and they want to major in computer science.

Most people suck at math because they never applied themselves.

this. dude just sit down and put in that work. math is like grammar, it as some rules and assumptions you need to follow and the rest of it would come together with practice

The only way to get better at math is doing it over and over again as repetition. You should do it. And take it seriously.

Your school should have a math help center, use it. If it doesn't have one, go to another school.

It depends on the school, but overall , it's necessary. Any respectable institution will make you take upper level math courses as a filter to differentiate the brightest of students to the average/slacker students.

Calculus will be required to walk for CS degrees.
Physics will be required for most engineering/medical degrees.

If you're terrible at mathematics, then STEM jobs aren't for you.

unfortunately, the general consensus out there is u need math to do computer science. which is very false. i dropped out of college specifically because i wasn't trying to waste my time learning some sh1t that i just couldn't understand. i dropped out, picked up books on programming, and i was set. no math in sight.

computer science, at least the branch i'm in (programming) requires creativity. and that's something you cant be taught. what they can teach u is the basic principles of programming. but u dont need thousands of dollars at some college to learn that. one book at ur local barnes and nobles will tell u that for less than $50.00.

but i will say, if u are good at math and u love math, u can use it to develop ur own programs to do some magical sh1t that'll have u many miles ahead of ur competition. the problem is, when they teach u math in college, they dont teach u how to apply it to real world scenarios. therefore, when these students graduate with a computer science degree, they have no clue how to connect math to what they have to do at work.

I suck at math no matter what. I took algebra 1 in 8th grade and barely passed. Geometry in 9th and Algebra 2 in 10th. I had to repeat it in summer school. I was transferred out of Probability and Statistics because I just couldn't grasp it and I failed Discrete Math with an F. I think too logically. I always need to know the why and how. STEM aint for everybody

Same reason why a lot of people fail. I don't really care I just do what I'm told, get my B+ or A- and bounce.
