It's funny when I was in high school I used to hear Hispanic's and Asian's using the word nikka amongst themselves all the time and no one ever said anything to them. The only time a non black person was ever checked for saying nikka was when it was a white person. Hell one of the biggest song's of my freshman year of high school was Lean back. Which had Fat Joe a Puerto Rican using the N word throughout the song. But there is a double standard because like Fat Joe, you have other Hispanic rappers and entertainers like Cardi B and Tekashi69 who get a pass to say nikka just because they are married or surround themselves with black people.

Ehh.

As I’ve gotten older I’ve really tried to use the word less and less.

I understand that we took that word and changed it from a negative into a term of endearment.

At the same time though, we are the only people that SELL OUT OUR CULTURE TO THE MASSES, YET GET MAD WHEN WE GET THE RECEIPTS FOR IT.

If cats gonna use it in EVERY song that crosses over trying go platinum, what the fukk did we think was gonna happen?

Our culture was manufactured for GLOBAL ENTERTAINMENT and so many of us are complicit with it.

We SHARED it with the world, damn near GAVE it to the world... and now we mad huh?

I hate when non blacks use the word, but I still look in the mirror.

This and the bolded especially.........

I'm 43, probably older than most cats on this forum. Grew up listening to west coast gangsta rap, NWA, Eazy E, Ice-T, Cube, Too Short, ect. The word "nikka" was used in every rap lyric on almost every album from all the artists I just listed. We made the word cool slang to use and call each other. Now we wanna push back because someone made a video of themselves saying along with artists song lyrics???? If we are gonna crucify Gina Rodriguez, you might as well round up every single IG female who put up videos of them staring into the camera singing or rapping along with a song that has the word "nikka" in it. Should Gina made an apology twice? fukk no! Social media users wanna be judge, jury, and executioner when something rubs them the wrong way. Why is it okay for us to use the word in daily common usage but not okay for everyone else. Are we gonna start pulling out Ancestry kits for people to find out if they are black to be ok to use slang? How this whole thing became social media news is stupid.

Ok, so I agree with both of you to an extent, right.

But, I can't get mad at the Brehs & Brehettes who are not happy with this word being thrown around so openly, ESPECIALLY, if they don't even use the word as frequently as some of us do. We shouldn't even be saying to begin with, BUT I understand why we do.

NOW, the problem, to me, comes in with their "justification" on using the N-Word.

"I grew up in the hood, I can say it"

I have a problem with this because, you mean to tell me, you "grew up in the hood", but the N-Word is the only thing you picked up from "growing up" around us?

Yea, so the only thing we do is sit around all day in the hood, and call each other the N-Word... FOH.

And then you have people trying to "educate" us on our own culture, and even they're trying to say, who should be able to say the N-Word.

I've also seen people on social media say, "Black People who didn't grow up in the hood shouldn't be able to say the N-Word"

WTF

I don’t understand how people can get something so simple twisted. By right nobody can force you not to say a word. As such it’s your prerogative to say nikka, ****** or any other variation. However, words have meanings and the context by which it’s used won’t be the same for anyone. Thus, you should be willing to accept responsibility if people have an adverse reaction especially to those who aren’t of African descent. One mans term endearment is another derogation. The common go to is that culture is consumed en mass and the word permeates music, literature and other mediums. And some whore said that there is a desire to have culture be ubiquitous. Which is a lie hence the whole Culture Vulture term. Nonetheless, I don’t understand the infatuation to say that name and cry when people call you out. Why not start using cracker, spic or any other terms. Mooney was right everyone wants to be a nikka but no one wants to be a nikka.

This. Why this desire to use the NWord? Because black culture is viewed as cheap entertainment. Thry don’t give a fukk about the culture. Then get upset when black folk call them out on it.

There’s also more to the black community than some stupid rapper.

Black entertainment to non blacks = immaturity and senseless fun for anyone under 25.

Then they grow up and think that black folk are merely children. That's when they embrace their own culture and teach stereotypes that black's ain't shyt to their next generation of their offspring.

This N word issue was never ever going to end well..and the only loser here is us.

Black people were fools for seeking integration so quickly without any conditions, and ultimately conceding our pride and self worth in exchange for closer relations with other groups. Groups that are actually useless to us.

Taking the brutal history and existence of our people so lightly to the point we allowed other races to call us N words and excuse it by claiming the A and ER make it different:pachaha:

What did we think we were doing, really?

What did we think we were achieving?

Whom did we think we were impressing?

N word as term of endearment:why: that old argument needs to die

Exactly. They never learn real black culture...just the commercial hip hop form which is a drop in the bucket.

It's like reading 2 pages of a 1,500 page novel but feeling like you've got it all figured out.
