I don't like the comparison of side chicks to side dishes.
Side chicks are more like dessert, an unhealthy cheat meal, or alcohol once every blue moon.
There isn't really nutritional value and the main course is nice but you can always have food that's good for you.
You know that recipe like the back of your hand and it's healthy, so you're happy to keep it in your diet even though it can get redundant.
Sometimes, you work hard and you know that life is short, so you treat yourself to a a little dessert while you're out.
You just know better than to keep that ice cream or whiskey in your freezer at home because having it regularly would make you miserable or ruin your life.
There'll probably be a time where you cut sweets and liquor out completely, but you've got time...
