He's A Good Man
album is fire. only drawback is the 31min runtime but just more reason to run it back.
I got to push back a bit. I feel you get enough of Mars' flavor and Paak's flavor for it fall into parody territory.People hate Pitchfork but this reviewer is making the exact same points as many people in this thread namely that this is a really enjoyable album but basically feels like a parody of 70s Philly Soul.
Bruno Mars pop sensibilities stifling the artistry of Anderson has also been a popular critique.
The last paragraph of this review hits the nail on the head.
But An Evening With Silk Sonic was only meant to be a hyper-detailed costume party. As Paak explained to Rolling Stone, Mars told him, “We’re making music to make women feel good and make people dance, and that’s it.” He didn’t lie. At eight songs plus an intro, it’s the shortest full-length project either artist has released. Teased since March of this year, leading to a promotional cycle that’s lasted nearly nine months, it arrives burdened with more hype and attention than its songs should have been asked to bear. Could they have made a weirder, more surprising version of this record? Absolutely. But as they’ve insisted from the start, it’s not that deep.

This is parody. Silk Sonic is humorous but not parody.I got to push back a bit. I feel you get enough of Mars' flavor and Paak's flavor for it fall into parody territory.
but there is some bullshyt on this album too. It's mixed too clean for this style of music. It's a pop parody of the real thing.
People want to compare this 8 song album to multiple decades of R&B/soul music and say it comes up short. lolFolks got they opinion and entitled to it, but I can't in my soul be so miserable to go out my way to find flaws in this album.
It's an easy listen that you can groove to. The only place I wouldn't throw this album on is at a funeral, but I will throw it on at the repass.
Meh
Big Paak fan but this project is too on the nose/retro for my taste. I love old school music but you could put your own spin on it and not just hit all the signifiers
I'm not gonna call it parody but I get why ppl have that take. Kinda feels karaoke-ish at times. I'd rather just skip the middleman and listen to old Gamble and Huff stuff
Bruno is too much of a copycat I know exactly what the source material is every time.....he is talented but theres always a twinge of corniness in his music
Songs kinda run together too
This isnt a bad project but it's not interesting to me. Would rather have another Nx worries for this type of sound
I hope anderson gets back to doing his solo shyt soon
