Damn this album is weird

I couldn't even listen to After Last Night because it reminded me so much of some old R&B tracks. Legit made me turn it off. Can't name it, but I think they ripped the hook off some old Teddy Pendergrass track. I'd rather listen to the original vs this. It's a synthetic version to me.

Maybe this is how the oldheads felt when they heard the OG sample tracks being put on rap records.

I just think people have been deprived of real soulful music for such a long time that stuff like this essentially replicates that feeling. This whole rehashing may as well be a "new sound" in 2021.

The way he changes his tone is from somewhere, I don't forget things like that.

If you're such an expert on Philly Soul you should be able to name it then :ufdup:

Yes, he didn't invent changing the tone of your voice while belting. I didn't claim to be an expert you did.

I liked the album, not crazy but a fun listen if you're in that mood. I get the "karaoke" critique and always felt the same way about acts like Mayer Hawthorne and Amy Winehouse. That said, I kinda knew they were going for the soulful pop revival thing based on the singles and Bruno being involved
