Lies. Post the commissioner saying something remotely close to what the NBA GM just said.

OK so you went from "no one is complaining" to "post what the commissioner said" nice goalposts move there. You can not listen to sports talk radio or TV and not hear people complaining that the NHL season starts when it's hot and ends when it's hot. People really dislike the season lasting all the way into the summer. It's a routine topic.

Not a goal post move at all. The only way to gauge the temperature on this is to see if the noise surrounding the length of the season has worked its way up to the Commissioner, to the point there's conversation about addressing it. You can't come in and say people complain about the NHL season "way more" than the NBA and it not even be worthy of a conversation by the owners or commissioner. If you can't do that, maybe post a mainstream article even discussing resting players in the NHL like you've seen with the NBA. Surely you'd be able to find those articles in abundance since people complain "way more" about it, no?

Philly. Fucc a Eagle. I mean dat.
Either one. Most fans would not mind if the season started in December. People "whine" becuz of lockouts in general, not cuz they love watching basketball in November
Hell nah fukk dat. I ain’t waiting all the way to no Christmas to get my NBA fix :what: no man should be able to call themselves an NBA junkie and be cool with the season starting on Christmas.

I've always been of the belief that less games would let the league as a whole grow even more. Right now if you're an NBA junkie and you're the type that wants to watch every team of your game it doesn't leave you much time to watch other teams. If teams had 20 or 30 less games then that'd leave more times for people to watch teams outside of their own and become fans of more players on other teams. Plus theoretically with less games players would go hard more often. Quality of play should go up.
You could also create a schedule to make it a lot easier to follow. Have all teams play Tuesday, Friday and Sunday (+Christmas) for 62 games. Thats a 20 week regular season Dec-Apr with the playoffs May/June

The reason this is getting notice from the commissioner is because of the TV networks not the average joe. TV networks are complaining that they are paying out the ass to air marquee matchups and the stars are sitting the bench. Thats why the NBA instituted a rule that stars had to play in big time tv games, they didnt say shyt about them other less sexy matchups. This phenomenon is a recent development. Its not a direct complaint that the season is too long, its a complaint that stars are sitting, and the reason they are sitting is because of back to backs and long road trips. If the NBA expanded the seasons footprint so that players were rested and played every game nobody would complain about the length of the season.

People been complaining about the length of the NHL season for a lot longer. Its not because people are mad because players are resting, its simply because folks think there is no reason for a winter sport to span all the way into June. Its not hitting them in the pocket books like it would with the NBA so they ignore it and move on.

Has anyone complained about the season having too many games? :jbhmm: I mean obviously you have semi-meaningless games, but that's more a result of lack of talent and "parity". That won't change necessarily with less games. Bad teams will still be bad :francis:

It's a recent phenomenon. Of late more and more studies have come out showing a correlation between lack of rest and injuries. That has lead to more teams resting their players more often. So that leads to fans and TV networks being pissed off. The natural middle ground IMO is to have less games. With less games that adds in built in rest as well as leading to less injuries and a better overall product.

Philly bouls, Trust the Process
The hardcore fan in me who wants to watch as many games as possible isn't a big fan of this. That being said, there are unquestionably league wide benefits.

Players will have more rest between games - perform better, and take less games off. Less injuries too.
Having less games combined with the previous benefit will make each game more intense, and more important to win. Higher incentives, higher stakes.
People will then be more likely to tune in to each game similar to football which benefits greatly in some regards on only having 16 games

Less games makes each game matter more
If you take a game or two off against the Lakers or the Kings like some teams will make you look worst at the end of the year when you only play 50 or so games

Nah. Spread the season out more. End back to back games. Start the season in late September.
