A gymnast’s score on any apparatus is the combination of an execution score graded out of a perfect 10 and a difficulty or starting value score. gymnastic routines are based all around difficulty. So you start from say 16.4 points and the judges take deductions and that's your score.

Simone's routines became so difficult that even if she slipped up during it she'd probably still outscore everyone else just because of how difficult all her moves are.

So the committees lowkey started to nerf her difficulty ratings to give other girls a fighting chance
