Since 1987, an astonishing 52 rappers have been murdered, with only a handful of them solved.

gotta disagree
look at their affiliations, cant compare - plus L was on the verge of signing with the number 1 label just before he got killed

The movement that Mac Dre had on his back was just about to blow right before he got killed

E-40 had his biggest album of his career off the strength of the work Mac Dre put in

Plus there were those rumors that Dr. Dre either had the choice of signing 50 Cent or Mac Dre at a certain time

God bless the dead. Tough being a hip hop head. I remember when the news broke on most of these late 1990s - 2000s deaths.

Did I overlook Half a Mil on this list?

Half killed himself.

I'm surprised they listed Mr. Cee and Seagram. It's far from a comprehensive list though... Out here in the Bay alone:

Pretty Black
Mac Dre
The Jacka
Lil G
Ghost8800

Although rappers are obviously higher-profile, this becomes even more depressing when you realize rap is not the only pillar of Hip Hop whose members are commonly murdered. A lot of graffiti artists have been murdered over the years, often by the police. A handful of them:

Mike "Dream" Francisco

REST IN POWER MIKE DREAM FRANCISCO - 40th BIRTHDAY

Michael "Trigz" Pebley

Trigz, Graffiti, Tattoo Shop Artist Dead: Killed In Fatal Shooting

Michael Stewart

Rap is the only genre where having recorded a wack 16 in the booth outs you on the same footing as professionals... Hoe many of these guys were actually notable rappers with accomplishments and careers?

You could prolly rack up that number in Chicago alone, everyone that dies was a rapper... No.
I'm saying do you call everyone who's used a calculator an accountant? These black dudes who've recorded over beats, and subsequently were murdered, are considered MC's why?

It's common sense that Mac Dre was on the verge of blowing up. Even Keak Da Sneak had his biggest hit during that time with national airplay. Mistah Fab got signed off derivative buzz from what Dre left behind. You think every artist that's ever blown up did it when they were freshly minted recording artists? Macklemore . . who would frequent Mac Dre's shows in the Seattle area . . was grinding for many years prior to reaching notoriety

As for him signing to Aftermath . . I'm just relaying a rumor, I never said it was factual :manny:

:yeshrug: no disrespect but Mac dre can't be mentioned with the others because honestly outside of the bay area, nobody really cares. I at least saw big l on tv. I've never once seen Mac dre anywhere outside of the back of an xxl or source mag where all them album ads were.

Add Johnny Cash to the list :snoop:

Losin Mr Cee was a big loss for Frisco because RBL was about to put the city on the map rap wise.
