I just KNEW that the Lakers were going to play the Cavs in 2009...

And at the beginning of 2010-2011 season I expected the Lakers to play the Heat in the Finals. Hell, last year I was one of those MANY fooled by the Dwight Howard/Steve Nash trades and was convinced we'd get to see a Bron-Kobe Final again.

this is probably a good thing for kobe, lebron has owned him in head-to-head matchups over their careers and i have no doubt he wouldve done the same in a 7 game series

yea the guy who has chocked in the finals every year woulda beaten the 5 time champ. bron stans are delusional.

:dahell: kobe may have had bad shooting games, but he never had a DISAPPEARING act like 2011. there's a difference between playing bad and not showing up.

Bron didn't show up in 2011. Worst championship performance by a star player in SPORTS HISTORY.

if Bron didnt show up in 2011 and averaged 18 a game....what do you call kobe averaging 15 a game on 36% shooting in 2000?:patrice:

you were watching basketball in 2000, right?:sas1:

I was but I guess you weren't. Cause if you did, you'd know kobe rolled his ankle at the start of game 2 (only played 9 minutes and scored 2 points). He then missed game 3 (which the Lakers lost). Then he came back in game 4 with a gimpy ankle and scored 28pts (including the go-ahead basket in OT), leading the Lakers to victory after Shaq fouled out and 3-1 series lead. If the Lakers had lost game 4 and the series tied 2-2, we might have been talking about the Pacers as world champs. That was his career defining game and his coming out party as a SUPERSTAR.

Take out game 2 (which he only played 9 minutes), and he averaged 19ppg in 2000 (as a 21 year old) on a severely sprained ankle that he could barely walk on. If you wanna attack Kobe's finals performances, that would be the last one. He singly-handedly won them the deciding game 4 on a messed up ankle. IMO 2004 and 2008 were Kobe's only 2 bad finals performances. I thought you'd cite those.

I thought it would happen in 2009 but Bron didn't have enough help

Thought it would happen in 2011 as the Lakers really were playing great ball after the All-Star break, Bynum was healthy and balling, Odom was 6th man of the year, and the Lakers looked like they would go to the NBA Finals for a 4th straight year themselves. But Kobe's knee wasn't right all year and Gasol went from being an MVP candidate early in the year to 42% shooting big man in the playoffs.

At this point, we'll never see it and I don't think anyone would want to see it. Kobe Bryant will not be the same player he was even last year and that franchise is headed for a long rebuilding process.
