I notice they got those struggle crowds out in Philly now...Those days of everyday sell outs look like they long gone...

They was only there when they was winning anyway. shyt when they was at the Vet it was like you could tickets to actually play in the game shyt was so weak but once they started winning here came all the dikkeaters. People only really support the Flyers and fukking sorry ass Eagles here out of,the major teams. Everything else is bandwagon status IMO.

What's crazy about that Howard deal is that it was an extension and there was no word around the league on anyone looking to give him close to that on the open market...

Also, have parents who were invovled in civil rights movements and marry a white chick brehs

Its a bad contract in hindsight but everybody got a Delorean nowadays I see. If dude would have kept up his early numbers he would have got way more than that on the open market and dude would've been bytching. Must be some 610 type wishy washy dudes on here lol

Basically.

Philadelphia sports fans ae delisional sometimes like that. It was the same shyt when they were happy that Bynum signed to the 76ers.

People in Philly were killing it too. Traditionalists loved the move but others like me were like :camby:.

And as someone who's been watching the Phils for over 20 years, the idea of a fan not being familiar with the Phils sucking is just hilarious to me.

Damn at this. Tell me more.

Ruben Amaro earned about a 2-3 year window “pass” when the Phillies won the WS in 2008. Back then, NOBODY would have dared criticized him because he was on a streak and was proactively making shyt crack – WS champs, then the acquisition of Cliff Lee and BACK to the WS, then getting Doc, then getting Cliff Lee BACK along with getting Oswalt…he was arguably THE MOST beloved GM in the city around that time.

Then, the team got old and he didn’t replace the old players with new talent. It should have been a GRADUAL phasing out of the old to the new. Instead, he stayed pat. Worse yet, he resigned a lot of the older players and gave them “reward contracts”…as in:

“You don’t REALLY deserve this much money, but we’re going to reward you for what you’ve ALREADY done for the team/city, not for anything you MIGHT do in the future…”

Noble in theory….but NOT good for business.

In the process of giving away all the money to dudes who didn’t really need THAT much money (IF they should have been signed/resigned at all…I’M LOOKING AT YOU, PAPELFAG :stopitslime: ), the team crippled its own ability to bring in talent to supplant the aging players, thereby setting its rebuilding process back to the stone ages.

But what REALLY compounded all of this is the fact that, SINCE 2008, the Phillies have seemingly either IGNORED the development of players coming up through their farm system, or they just flat-out have CRAPPY ASS scouts who have no idea how to pick talent. Think about it, how many of our prospects over the last five years have actually panned out?

So here we are, stuck with a team of inconsistents and a bullpen that couldn’t strike out the women from “League of Our Own”. :smh: Just HOW inconsistent, you ask? Well, prior to this Bluejays series the Phillies – SINCE April 19th – were in the top ten in FIVE offensive categories (hell, Marlon Byrd was LEADING THE LEAGUE in RBIs…. :what: ). Even the bullpen had been playing better, AND it’s not like they were beating cupcakes (with series wins over the Dodgers and the Nats in there). Delusionally, I actually started to have HOPE….then this series happened. :snoop:

If they would have just started the rebuilding process THREE YEARS AGO, when the window for their title runs had clearly been shut (after the Giants series in the NLCS) and said “screw it, we have to lose for a bit to get better” we wouldn’t be where we are now. Just lookit the Red Sox, they did it the RIGHT way - virtually gutting their team two years ago and voila, suddenly they’re WS champs.

Ruben has to go for this team to turn the corner….and unfortunately, we’re STUCK with a lot of those bad contracts (Howard, Papelblown….). So my fear is that we’re going to get much worse before we get better, which may be awhile.

I'm pretty sure every Phillies fan expected this this year anyway

Yeah, this is it in a nutshell. We expected it, but we still held out SOME hope. Personally, I STILL do (but I'm a DIEHARD ride or die Phillies fan, so I'm biased and slightly delusional).

Like, this division IS NOT that great. Nobody is running away from the pack, the Braves have SERIOUS issues right now even though they're formidable, and we just housed the Nats (we HAVE struggled against the bytch ass Mets, inexplicably, for some unfortunate reason). So the hope is STILL that we can stay around .500 until August, then maybe sneak in with one of those wildcard spots. :manny:

But we're still being realistic with tempering our expectations for this year.

Hell, how could we NOT with THAT putrid ass bullpen? :scusthov:

That's because a shytload of new "fans" rolled on board after they won in 2008.

Those are the same ones sounding like idiots on the radio.

Stop it
He was clearly declining and declining very fast. He was never a Great fielder and never in the best shape. His weakness against lefties would have eventually made him a platoon DH which doesn't get much money in 2010 much less now

No it wasn't but we can disagree on that 4/5 yrs in the rearview it sounds good. If it was so bad who was supposed to take Howard's place then and put up comparable numbers?

People in Philly were killing it too. Traditionalists loved the move but others like me were like :camby:.

Like I told boy below y'all should be scouts. Team wasn't jack shyt for a minute but paying Howard (one of the main people that brung it back) like that's not usually how it goes in MLB with all y'all cutthroat records execs is not the move? I think y'all play to much simulated baseball/football games shyt ain't realistic for the most part at all.

Man you stop it. Like I said before everybody got a Delorean and now everybody running cutthroat records too. Compared to what he would have got on the open market this was a steal at the time but you and people on here are the only smart ones. Great yall might as well be scouts and help the Phils out since yall are so good at advance projections. I can agree with the other stuff but people really care about great 1st baseman now? The left handed stuff I agree 100% with and don't get that at all.
