But teaching him to be a masculine, critical-thinking, independent and determined man is also important.

If you teach a boy to be respectful, he's going to be respectful of everyone - male or female.
I don't know that you need to force this chivalry down his throat at 5 or 6 years old.

I feel sorry for him when he finds out every woman will not treat him like his mother. I don't necessarily see any wrong doing but you have to teach your child both sides of the coin.
