(Spoilers)
Thought it was pretty bad. C/D level horror bullshyt, with decent to good main and supporting actors, but it was just trash, shock value horror. I'll admit, the music, and the 'jump scares' were creepy enough, but, it was overall, a bad movie. Ethan Hawke does nothing but sit in the damn dark, and watch some distasteful, and trashy 'snuff' films, that aren't really scary, (I jumped at the lawnmower though), dude is walking around his house brandishing a damn butcher knife with little kids running around? Wearing that old man sweater for days at a time? Plus, the main issue is with the story. Just throw an ancient curse in there, that will give us the story, the villian, the conclusion, all in one. Never mind why some archaic curse is active in rural and suburban US neighborhoods, or why the fukk ancient demons would bother delegating the task of having their demon child subordinate film the murders, with 'ironic' titles and all? Nevermind WHY, leave the box, in case a tortured, hard drinking writer moves his family in, we can really mess with him. Vincent D Onfirio, who is perfect for horror movies is wasted in a thankless role, and Dalton Thompson has even less to do. Hawke's investigation is pretty funny too, did he really write 'Who left the box here'? lol. Does he not know how to use google? Why the fukk didn't he just do that. instead of giving the task to the deputy? Not that any of it matters. It's all just a showcase for the found footage. Anyone who follows the narco wars in Mexico, has seen the real version of those films, and how horrific they are. You don't have to show kids getting their throat cut, or burned alive, to create a well made horror movie. Trash movie, and I was really looking forward to it too. They took the main demon RIGHT our of 'Insidious' too, which was a far better movie.
