Firstly, I'm only talking about the 2024 SB.

We had 28 rushing attempts in the game, which was only 1 less attempt than our regular season average, but only rushed for 98 yards compared to the 140 we averaged during the season. After that first drive where we started by running at will but ended in a run game turnover, Spags adjusted to a heavy defensive front and it confused the shyt out of our OL, and they struggled to run the ball the rest of the half. The 3rd quarter 8-1 pass/rush ratio was situational. Coming out of the half, Shanny called a run play on 2nd & 10 after the Mahomes pick but Banks fukked it up with a false start, so obviously we're forced to pass on 2nd/3rd & 15. We start the second drive of the 3rd quarter by taking an 8 yard loss on 1st down with a busted play, so obviously we're forced to pass on 2nd & 18 and 3rd & 11. On the 3rd drive we start with a run that gets blown up for 0 yards because Trent Williams gets his wig pushed back by a scrub. Run game is completely dysfunctional at this point and we need to put up points to give us some breathing room from Pat, so we pass on 2nd & 10 (incompletion because Purdy went for a deep shot instead of taking an open Deebo underneath) and then we're forced into passing on 3rd & 10. Then comes the muffed punt return and Chiefs immediately score, so we're down for the first time in the game, and need to go pass heavy to get back in it. Which actually worked because the next drive Brock goes 5/7, 60 yards and a TD, and starts the next drive with a 23 yard completion to JJ, after which Shanny called 3 straight run plays. Those run plays were the most success we had in the run game since the first drive, so the only criticism I have of Shanny here is that he didn't call a run play on 2nd & 5, but we were up by 3 with 2:45 left in the game so I understand him wanting to get a first down to ice the game and figuring the best chance for that was behind the pass because the run game wasn't trustworthy for the vast majority of the game. Obviously we had 2 incompletions instead, so that didn't work out. In the overtime drive, Aiyuk false starts on 2nd & 10 so we're forced into passing again. We get a free first down after Chiefs penalty, after which Shanny called two straight run plays. That whole OT drive we had a 50/50 run-pass split. And it worked, we probably would have won the game on that drive if the OL doesn't yet again fukk up protection on the 3rd and 4 at the KC 9 yard line.

TLDR: There's not really any point in which Shanny turn away from a successful run game to go pass heavy for no good reason. The Chiefs shut down our run with early adjustments and the OL couldn't handle it, which forced us into passing situations. Unlike the Eagles, we only had a double-digit lead for 1 drive in the game, and we don't have a QB that can execute designed runs like the Eagles do. If we were up by 17 points I'm pretty sure we would have seen more runs, even if they weren't working like the Eagles.
I fundamentally disagree with the notion that you have to pass on 2&long after a penalty, specially against a defense that thrives on downs that look like pass downs...and that they showed during most of the 2nd half that could handle properly. Hell, the 4th drive, which is the Brock for 60 yards and a TD worked because after two 1st down incompletions we went with CMC and got us to 3rd and short so we could give Purdy more options on 3rd.

The 3rd & 4 play on OT is on the playcalling as much as it is on the OL breh. Brendel was supposed to go left and abandon the middle so we could run a fake sweep (we had never done anyways) with CMC. Even if Burford doesn't fukk up, at least 1 Chief defender would've had an easy path to Brock and the play doesn't go anywhere anyways. If Brock gets 3 seconds it's probably a JJ TD but Kyle didn't account on the possibility of Spags not giving a fukk about a fake to CMC (why would he??) and sending the house.

Running on 2nd & 10 after an incompletion is a much different proposition than running on 2nd & long after a penalty. We'd been getting stuffed all day in the run. In the first half we were averaging 3.3 yards a rush. If Shanny called a run play on the 3rd quarter 2nd & 18 or 2nd & 15 - especially against a defense that was stuffing the run all game - we would be calling for his head. The fact that Shanny called those 2nd & 10 runs shows he wasn't abandoning the run for no reason.

Eh, I'm fine with criticizing the playcall here but I think the primary issue was execution. The OL just shyt the bed yet again, like they'd been doing the whole game. If Burford doesn't freelance his assignment then Purdy could get the extra second or two needed to hit his hot read. But sure, I think it's fair to say Spags outcalled Shanny on this one.

Nope, we would've all shytted on the OL and/or the players for not executing. I'm possitive the narrative would've been "we can't blame Kyle for not running this time around".

And the "if it would've gotten stuffed" theory doesn't really hold that much weight when we were still moving the ball more than with the pass. Again, the Chiefs defense showed they were much more prepared to stop the pass offense out of the half more than anything else, we couldn't complete a damn pass and if it did, it didn't go longer than 5 yards.

Reading on the cap situation of Deebo, the only thing that makes some sense is trading him after June 1st. But even still, his dead cap numbers are fukking ridiculous, doesn't make much sense to move him at all.

I hate the NFL Cap man, I never understand shyt :heh:

We gotta let it go. The Eagles were a better built team than we were last year. The Eagles have the best coordinators and position coaches in the business. They have maulers on both sides of the line, they got a HOF level RB, and they have Saquon Barkley.

We have to go back to the old ways like Jim Harbaugh was trying to do or even earlier Kyle.
