So a friend of a friend wants me to do Plumbing/HVAC side work. Nothing crazy, just simple installs/repairs

What's your opinion on doing side jobs. I remember asking a dude who said that he would never take a side job because it always attracts cheapskates. Another said he loves side jobs because he builds up his clientele when he eventually wants to open up his own business

Or anyone else, what do you ya'll think?

great money, but I only try to do full installs for HVAC. When people want you to repair their systems there could be more than 1 problem wrong with their system. If you solve one problem and receive payment for it you could run into another problem and now some bytch azz home owner thinks you’re ripping them off. Be clear when trouble shooting that you’re fixing a certain issue and let them know this is a band aid option.

ALWAYS TRY TO SELL A FRESH INSTALL FIRST!

Nope. I refused to do car repair on the side even though that was my trade for a long time. Customers don't want to pay you for your time, and they want their car fixed yesterday :scust: . You never get the whole story with regards to what's wrong with their vehicle; it's almost ALWAYS something that's way more involved than they tell you.

I did them early on for friends and family, but not for strangers or on recommendations. I don't do anything anymore without a contract involved.

Mostly just for family and friends. I don't mind doing something simple on the side if I know its simple cause like other people said mf'ers be having one issue then you'll find another issue they expect you to fix both of those things for the original price and life don't work like that:stopitslime:

If you are planning on going off on your own then do it. Try learning pricing too. Don’t sell yourself for cheap. Trust me. Build your clientele up now
