I’m curious to know what y’all think of this album?

Just talked about this album again recently.

I liked it, but it was mad short. For as long as we waited for it, I would've liked more tracks. But Rick sounded exactly the way he did 30 years ago, to me. So that was dope! I think it was good project, but just one of those albums that I probably don't play enough. I need to throw it on way more.

Oh word? Nice

Yeah that’s my only gripe about it, the songs are like snippets but other than that, I have zero compliments

I been listening to it again on loop the last few days and it may just be album of the year for me.

I thought it was solid. A bit too short but I thought Ricky sounded good. Wish there was some more story joints but i loved Landlord.

Nice; yeah it’s like he just gave us a sampler instead of a whole album

But I really can’t complain because I was beginning to think Slick would never drop another album

So I’m thankful for what we got.

I just wish the songs were longer

He has a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine that just came out and in it, they say he has a vault of over 300 beats he’s produced.
I like the beats on here

Straightforward boom-bap with jazzy/soulful samples. Clean mix and nice drums

Nothing crazy but it works. I wanna hear the rest of those beats!

Same

I love the beats; I love how he gave us slices of sounds. The house beats were some of my favorites.

Your right, the beats have such a clean mix

Me too. Rick is underrated as a producer

The shortness of the songs work better in the video format and that was the concept so I get it. The film version is cool but most of us ain't sitting down to watch a 30 minute music video more than a couple times.

Same time the whole album is enjoyable. Musically remind me of the better parts of The Ruler's Back and Behind Bars. Hope Rick will release something else sooner than later. Can still listen to him rap all day and his catalog way too small for his talent level.

Still listening to this album

Yeah the songs could be longer but it’s Slick Rick

Even 30 seconds of Slick Rick is better than everyone else’s shyt
Cabin In The Sky being released made me listen less to Victory but it's still only those 2 albums from the run that got more than 1 listen. And both have got at least a dozen full play throughs with no skips or cherry picking tracks.

After hearing the Raekwon & GFK albums I knew De La was the only one that would fight for the top spot with Victory for me, and it didn't disappoint.

I think a lot of the criticisms on Victory are really invalid. A lot of people forget it was first and foremost a visual album. Mass Appeal really fumbled the release by having the audio widely available before the film. I get that they were taking it around a few film festivals first but it really killed the hype for me. Not having the album as originally intended, promoted on day of release was so disappointing.

Yeah

De La are have remained pretty consistent so I knew they’d deliver a great album

True. I hope Slick releases some more music. I wanted hear those 300 something beats he’s got in a vault that he mentioned in a recent Rolling Stone interview
