Exactly. There's certain references that you have to make that the crowd will understand. Sports bars, popular urban movies and TV shows, rap, current events or extremely popular older news stories, the crowd will usually know about and react to. When you start doing bars about shyt most hood nikkas ain't watching or don't know about is when you get in trouble. Yeah the bar could be complex but if nobody understands the reference how you expect them to respond?

Charlie Clips won 2-1 pretty clearly imo. Top's 1st was solid but underhwelming, second was fire, third was solid but a little flat

You can tell Clips....wrote this stuff last minute. Thats why his delivery was so chill...he was basically trying to make sure he remembered the material and didnt choke. I noticed Clips going back further than usual to start back up some bars after the crowd interrupts t. Thats usually a sign that someone will forget their verse if they dont go back to exact points in the verse.

One thing I can say is...these rookies still need work. This was the rookies biggest battles of their careers. These Vets came half-assed and the rookies still came out losing these matches or made it too debatable.

Because the battle rappers are catering to a large crowd by being as basic as possible. That shyt is awful on cam.

Listen to some of the basic bullshyt Clips was saying. He said something like "I'm camron & ghostface, twice the killa" & they went crazy.

This is just showing how important bars are. This basic shyt is ruining the URL.

I'm not buying the dumb it down shyt.. That's just another excuse for them when they don't perform. Clips has never been some super lyrical/over the head bars type of cat..he's been saying shyt like "2 killa" since day one. The guys that keep getting booked on URL don't even have the ability to turn up lyrically like that.

The problem to me is the matchups. URL has to stop booking the same 3-4 vets every card. Like you said, put an actually hungry vet like Cortez, and match him up with somebody hungry like Ty Law. Instant classic. Why is it so hard for these dudes to put a battler known for bars vs a battler known for bringing bars?

The dumb it down shyt is definitely true. Battle rappers talk about this openly on podcasts all the time. Just think about it. Even if you don't have a great matchup, a guy should be able to perform his ass off.

You have had battles that made sense they still didn't come out that good.

As far as Clips, Mickey Factz has came out & said Clips has way more lyrical ability than he shows in these battles. Hell he most likely does, because based on sheer ability, Clips is very talented.

Look at how basic Bmagic has become. Big T just talked about dumbing his shyt down to cater to the audience on AFR on Friday.

I agree match ups could be better as well.

Not really because Real Deal (more than Sno) has a fan base outside of URL/Street battle rappers who may be willing to come see him battle. I've actually been to battles where people in line with me said they just came to see Real Deal. He has the The KOTD/Grind Time crowd. Cortez and Ty Law don't bring that to a URL stage because they are lower on the totem pole URL rappers who don't really have a fan base outside of the urban battle rap scene.
