I ain't followed battle rap like that for almost 6 years so I wasn't too familiar with Goodz tbh.

But when I was reading everywhere that he 3-0d Cass I couldn't believe it.
So I looked up the bootleg verison and just watched it... And man...
It wasn't even close... Goodz completely cooked him.

Cass delivery and stage performance was really boring.
But I still gotta give him my respect for actually keep going while the crowd was booing. And for him to challenge a professional battle rapper.

But yeah I think this once again confirms that industry rappers should stay industry.

Can I ask you something? I'm a guy who grew up on the DVD/Smack/Philly vs Harrisburg type joints..

It really disgusts me how everyone has this same, poetry slam, sort of style. Same mannerisms.. Same acting... Rising and falling at the same parts.. If these were songs, everyone would pretty much be clowned for having the same flow... Almost a Migos flow or Poet flow is diluting what I do hear, when I tune in. While a rapper like Lux still stands out.. I really like Goodz, cause his style stands out.............

I'm ASKING.. not trying to be a dikk.... Am I alone or in the few who think like this? Do current fans wish for more variety? Less theatrics? Less gun bars and tough talk from nikkas not doing nada? That last battle with Tay Roc... When dude was like "yea I talked about your daughter... what you gonna do? almost fight?????" Something so simple, shut down all the tough looks and "i'm bout to swing" and gun bars quick... Whole crowd yelling it. But really it could be said towards anybody but like 2-3 people who would swing...

I know it has changed... Rap has changed.. But most rap fans ain't happy about it.. While it seems most battle fans are

Am I wrong?
Yeah you’re alone in this. There’s more variety now than ever before and the guys that have stuck around have gotten better almost across the board, and new guys jump in to a higher standard

I wish Cass had battled rum last weekend, so all the non fans and former fans could see what punching really sounds like in 2019

Edit: forgot rum was on the card lol. but i also think a lot of people who came to see Cassidy only paid attention to one battle too. Cass is an easy rapper to listen to if your ear isn’t tuned to average battle rap material

More copycats of course but there’s more sources to copy from.

I will say that if you like Goodz, I see where you’re coming from because he’s not the most popular but he is unique. He’s also jumped levels severely in the last year or two btw

I appreciate it. I guess for me it’s not so much the punches and all that. I knew Cass was washed when I saw him battle Diz. Canibus too.

My issue is the flow. If I hear one more rapper do this:

Ayo!! Ayooooo!!!! I said... I said... I said..... you and you mans couldn’t body me (slaps chest 3 times)

I got a clip (does clip motion), that’ll rip (does moving LEGO blocks claw hands for each syllable) through you (shakes hands at other rapper) that’ll capture your soul like voodoo (waves arms in a fashion that nobody who ever shot a gun moves)

I’m sick of that shyt. That’s why I named Goodz. None of that shyt. Lux. Don’t ever come with that flow. Even diz for all his hate, came with that fast style that became a trademark

Do these new dudes have trademark FLOWS? Who? Put me on breh. I need some new blood

I forget who the guy in here is who follows We Go Hard closely but I do kinda the same in my local scene and yeah you gotta wade through A LOT of that generic and played out stuff to find the good stuff, but by the time most get to URL in 2019, they’re not doing much of that

Rum Nitty gets away with PG steppin because his punches are insane

Some guys lesser known to the outside world:

Maybe my favorite body bag of the last 5 years

Local guys

Entertaining 2v2 not unknowns at all but I dunno how much you watch if at all

There is a variety but sometimes you have to dig for it. Big stages, especially URL, there will be a lot of bars that default to some gun/crime shyt. But there is a mix up of just clowning the opponents battle rap career, public mistakes, life choices, and anything else that can be picked a part on stage.

Lux definitely changed the game. And Goodz has been able to show how to battle without overdoing it with the wordplay and etc. And there are a lot more stand outs in the game aside from those two (examples: Danny Myers, Brizz Rawsteen, Illmac). But typically, I get where you are coming from with it. Right now, the trend is to sound like New Jersey Twork which is annoying, imo.

Watching the bar for bar cuts of cass vs goodz i see how people are saying cass won.. They were def hating on him in the 3rd for no reason at all.

But in that same token if we going that route then Danja beat Goodz. And we know thats false.

It's weird but it's been proven time and time again the more lyrical battle rapper can lose. This is no different. Goodz was more direct. Had better angles. And was more current then Cass. And i wanted cass to win. I really did.

Compare Cass material to Reed material vs Rex. It's a night and day difference. They both kept their own flow but Reed material was much more "current" then Cass was. If that makes any sense.

Reed has more experience, and had to work to get to that point. He had Todd, Chess, and worked the smaller leagues. The Rex battle is when he finally put it together.

Iron Solomon came back kind of outdated against Daylyt. He kept working and look at him now.

Serious jones just had his best performance against ILL Will.

Eness found away to make his style not sound outdated.

It can be done, but you have to battle consistently. Cass demands too much money to really do that.

Eness is so unapologetic with it that it wins you over. His style is one of my favorites. I hope he fukks Jae Millz over.

For better or for worse, battle rap is more than just raps now. Dudes hopping back in gotta understand that. Theatrics is a major part of it now. It's truly its own art form. There's nothing else in the world like it.

And while I certainly didnt wanna hear Jakks trash ass bars, John John gotta respect the fact that he's part of Twork's performance. TODD was acting like a hoe the whole battle really. Every nikka I know that looks like him acts like that.

I agree. Im not even a fan of Jakk. But JJDD was acting like a whole hoe out chea. He knew he was getting killed.

And JJDD trying to flip the narrative saying Twork didn't have a 3rd round is crazy. Twork rapped for 3 mins until Jakk came out and he still didn't even do a strapped in.

Twork really was gonna 30 the other da don. That's the twork people are scared of.

I say he is really good to see battle in person. Its like, you know he was just seriously good at point. Now its like, he's good yet funny and entertaining which I'm pretty sure he stumbled upon after a while of battling. Cats like him and Dot (free Dot, btw) I do recommend folks see live for just that performance aspect.

I think it was all about what happens at that exact moment for real. Once he didn't level up on Goodz by the time the 2nd and 3rd rounds hit, he was in trouble. I agree, he had some very slept on material. At the same time, (1) he wasn't selling every line like he should have been and (2) I think the crowd got tired of him seeming like he was just kind saying those lines with no kind of switch in the delivery.

Funny because DMX used to have shyt like using his dog in his battles... there's a video on YouTube where Trex says he battle x when he was 14 (x wasnt Hollywood and would give it to whoever tried to run down on him) and rex said after the bars where x sicked his dog on him it was over.
