I have placed in a couple of Houston local touneys for Super SF...I actually have played SSB and know that to do the stuff that touney players do is something far beyond what I am capable of but it is still not the way the game was intended to be played by Nintendo
Brawl is pure garbage though. so if people are basing their views of smash from that then yeah, by all means, its trash.
I'm just amused by the amount of people in here who haven't played anything on a competive level talking about depth and skill in a game when they have little to no perception of what either really entails.

I'm not dissing Street Fighter or MvC, but some of you in this thread need to do a little bit more research
Misc. details on item/stage rules:
* They have rules on which stages are played so that they can minimize camping and stall tactics. Hyrule Temple is a super fun stage, but it's really not legit in a tournament setting. Anyone can just get one kill and run away for the whole match 
Stages with walk-off edges can also promote really
stalling and camping strategies as well.
* The first tournaments actually allowed items, but they were ultimately turned off because it made it too easy for anyone to luck out. Items can be fun, but they introduce too much of a random luck factor that significantly affect the outcome of a match. That's cool when you're just chilling with your boys, but when money's on the line or you really want to straight up see who can fight, then there's little incentive to practice and improve when ANYONE could be unlucky enough to have an item spawn and explode in their face in any moment.

Love Nintendo games but this series is an exception and I'm not taking anything away from Smash Bros when I say I don't understand this game, the controls, the praise, the appeal... I don't get it brehs, it does nothing for me.

Last year smash was hype as fukk, well at least the crowd was so that's why I think they brought it back this year. This year tho that shyt overran and people wasn't really feeling it so I don't think it will return for evo 2015.

So now dudes are using the argument that Nintendo didn't make Smash to be played as competitively as it's being played now?Yall do know in the original SF2 game, you weren't supposed to be able to cancel moves into others for combos. That was all a glitch. So actually SF2 wasn't meant to be played in the competitive style it is now, too. It was all an accident.
Smash is an entirely different game. Not like SF, MK, or Tekken, but it can be played competitively cuz that's obviously what they're doing now. A lot of pro-gamers, whose credentials I respect much more than dudes here, are surprised upon picking it up and are even giving the game it's props. Why shyt on a game others like if it's not bothering you?
I don't like the series as much as I used to, but I'm not gonna clown the game if I'm not feeling it. Yall dudes need to go outside more.
