So, I was out with my cousin, handling some business, and we went to a strip mall, you know, where there are all types of stores. Anyway, I went inside of a different store to handle something while he went into a grocery store, long story short, come to find out he tried to walk out with a couple of chocolate bars and a pack of gum, now mind you, my cousin had the money to buy them so I'm not sure why he didn't :gucci:, so he tells me that when he was about to walk out a loss prevention person stopped him and took back the stuff.

Apparently, he was supposed to stay and show his ID, fill out paperwork, etc but lied and told the man it was in his car, which was parked all the way down the strip mall. He had no car since he was riding with me, now the worker was going to follow him to this imaginary car until my cousin told him how far it was parked and the worker gave up and said he's gonna call the police as my cousin kept walking which he proceed to walk a few blocks away from the grocery and sat inside some blood laboratory for about a good hour, then said he didn't see any police arrive at the store.

Now he's wondering if the store could still press charges and find him since he didn't give a name or show ID. I told him that since he walked away and disappeared before any police showed up, it's unlikely that they'll find him, and security footage only goes so far, but he's anxious, thinking his face from security cameras or whatever might pop up on the news or on a law enforcement social media page.

I told him he was lucky this prevention guy didn't go the extra mile to hold him in custody and let this be a valuable lesson, don't steal, shyt if you got the money to pay (which he did) then just buy it, save yourself the stress and embarrassment, should've told his mom :martin: but I'd keep it between us, since I am my brotha's keeper.

I'm not a legal expert, but what do y'all think? Should he be worried?

Cops aren't going to try to identify & write up a warrant for a shoplift totaling $10. It wasn't even a high priority call but if they came timely, one officer took a statement and collected any video evidence while the backing officer drove around for three minutes looking for anyone who fit the description in the call notes before bouncing.

Loss prevention absolutely will remember him and call the police the moment they recognize him while he's perusing if he goes back anytime in the near future. I wouldn't go back there with him. If he does it with you with him, they will 100% assume you were knowledgeable and trespass you, too.

Yeah, I told him he was lucky that loss prevention didn't go the extra mile to detain him, and most importantly, don't go back in there or let alone that area, 'cause as you said, they definitely will remember him and call the police next time.

I will say at least he was smart enough not to point out my car and get me caught up in that shyt :mjlol: , but yeah, I definitely won't be taking him places with me for a while.

How do you get caught stealing candy :mjlol:
Probably hidden cameras.

Y'know, a lot of stores' technology these days is different than when a lot of us were coming up:manny: , or the security has their eyes on him once he enters the store.

I don't know, it makes me wonder if that wasn't his first time shoplifting in that store. Sometimes, stores will let a person get away with stealing a few times, but then, out of nowhere, decide to stop them one day.
