I still haven't heard the album. These reviews don't motivate me to do so. I gotta say, Snoop is the type of artist that got to his status by being the coolest MF on the planet. It's hard to use that ticket when you're 60 :francis: God knows I love Snoop, but somethings aren't as graceful once you hit a certain age.

Listening to the instrumentals for the first time right now

shyt lacks soul, it just feels empty and generic

The mixing is clean as always but what good is that when the beats are soulless?
Throwaways from the Dre vault that a intern got busy on the beats, while Dre was drunk on the Henny.

Dre has branded himself very well to basically not have any hit records or notable music in forever but still be called a GOAT

- Relapse flops (even tho it has a cult following) and Em bounces back with Recovery to great success

- Compton flops and everyone except Anderson is gone

- Oxnard flops and Anderson Paak is back in 6 months with a hot album and goes on a great run

- He produced a whole remix album for Kanye West and nobody cared

- Missionary flops and Snoop is back with a new album in the same format of his other ones like nothing ever happened

The illusion that he even still makes beats is barely there...

Thing is you can point to all of those people, who are now iconic, including Kendrick and 50, and say to some extent that Dre played a part in that. That coupled with his financial/business success conflate with him being relevant as a producer.

Can you name ONE other producer that had Dre's mixture of quality and longevity 87 to 05

And pleeeeeease dont name Alchemist or any other underground producer

I need California Love level type beats

Nobody can sit next to him, everybody fell off the map RZA, Preemo, Timbo faster than him

Its not just branding he might be a piece of sheeiiit as a person and might not be everyones favorite but duke is GOAT of GOATS

You're right. I think it's that we turn a blind eye to his recent flops a bit more than others because of other factors

Within that time range you shared, he is absolutely a GOAT. But I'd argue that the other guys have been continuing to make good music in ways that he has not

If Dre wasn't a business mogul, and continued to release music this way - would he be as highly rated?

Agree that hes been very weak after a certain point and that Pete Rock would put out something that I enjoy rather than Dre & team but cant erase everything else just because he is shyt in modern times...

Preemo aint putting out Mass Appeals every year... RZA is MIA as far as im concerned

Guess Pharell might put out a dope album with the new Clipse but his sound was always a bit sugary to me

Nah, guy is in his own league...

Relapse a flop? No

Everyone except Anderson gone? No, Jon Connor is prolific for example, has just released a whole album produced by KLC and was around before Compton too.

Oxnard? This put a lot of people on to Anderson Paak.

JIIK wasn't properly released, and it's well regarded in Dre circles.

Missionary suffered mostly due to internet moaners and people stuck in the past wanting it to sound like Doggystyle.

Dre is relevant for his music, first and foremost, no matter what the era. Headphones, labels, helping putting artists out there are all secondary.

Wait did that Kanye remix album actually drop? All I heard was the joint on Khaleds album with Eminem.

Nobody wanted Missionary to sound like Doggystyle, they just simply wanted it to sound good, which it didn’t, it sucked badly. Snoop then put out a follow up 6 months later produced mostly by Battlecat, Soopafly, and Nottz and it was WAY better.

I tried for a few days when I got it but I have not revisited it honestly. The album was a huge letdown and not Dre's best production wise by any means. I liked quite a few of his other albums better.
