Snoop is an icon but he's never ever ever brought up in the goat discussions. I think that's what op is talking about. The perception of his career is that he had a classic debut, bombed the second one, then went to Nolimit and basically became a character moreso than a rapper. The reality is dude been dropping pretty good music for 2 decades. But its Snoop Like, ya grandma know Snoop..not necessarily for music tho.

That's becuz people really don't point out that snoop is lyrically mediocre. This was greatly exposed on the 2nd and 3rd album. Snoop came out during the era when cursing all over records was the new thing but after that gimmick ran it's course due to everyone now doing it , it became about what else can u bring to the table? Snoop did have a talent for song making and once he redeemed himself on the lp 'top dog' he found his lane and pretty much stayed there sustaining his star status with descent / dope albums afterwards.
