There's a difference between attention and popularity. Drake, Kendrick, Cole, Future, Travis, Gunna, Carti, Baby, and Durk are more popular than nearly all women rappers. For every SexyRed, who is very popular, there are multiple Lattos and Coi Lerays who will always get more attention at an awards show shaking their ass than most dude rappers can muster. You could have J Cole performing at the BET Awards and it might not garner the response an Ice Spice performance garners, despite her not being particularly popular/successful.

In terms of male r&b...sure that shyt is largely dead on a mainstream level. I don't think it's a conspiracy, it seems pretty simple. I honestly think it's similar to why we don't see many elite black boxers or baseball players: kids who might have played those sports 30 years ago are exclusively playing football and basketball instead. Likewise I think a lot of artists who may have developed into true r&b singers find it more appealing to delve into rap or whatever you want to call the melody stuff (Gunna, Roddy Ricch, etc). These dudes aren't growing up listening to Usher, the way girls grow up listening to Beyonce/Rihanna/etc. They grow up listening to Drake and Future.

As much as I enjoyed the Usher tribute, I was left scratching my head because where were the male talent? There’s enough male R&B dudes out who could’ve performed.

As for nominations and awards, last year was a bad year for men. Either it was a disappointing music year or there were some big names that didn’t drop at all. This year has been a lot better but if we fast forward to next year, will ScHoolboy Q and Vince Staples be amongst those nominated? Both of their albums have been stood out this year or will they sub-in mainstays who actually show up to these awards?

male r&b has been dead for years

women have been doing the airy breathy shyt and it gets overlooked because there are more women who are actually talented artists

Giveon and LuckyDaye were the minorities in the genre, meanwhile more nikkas like Partynextdoor and Brent Faiyas keep coming up. Artists like that rely on production because they arent good vocalists.

I personally like both sides of rnb but more times I'd rather a Future over Brent Faiyas. You get the same kinda subject matter lol

There are plenty of singing ass men.

What you just said fuels platforms like BETs decision to not give them a platform at all.

How are they going to get attention when they won't get a platform because they're catering to a specific female demo? Tone Stith can sing. TA Thomas can sing. Khamari can sing. Arin Ray, Lucky Daye, (and they all imo make good to great music) etc,. and yet you don't be seeing these dudes on TV, nor do they get any attention online bc social media rather kiki about certain people who can't sing their way out of a paper bag and make trash music.

These vocals are infinitely superior to HALF of the Usher tribute set.

Black Music Honors has been killing BET for years now in quality talent lineups, but they don't have the best TV deal, so people mostly miss out and only catch it in twitter clips.
