I straight up HATED them cats from the interviews I'd see of them on other shows or clips of their show I'd see on twitter. I thought they were corny as fukk and just didn't get the humor at all. Then I watched an episode around the 2016 election time and they grew on me. Still wasn't something I could watch every day but when watched in moderation they'd have me rolling. The Showtime show was garbage though so I checked all the way out.
They pulled a good deal off of Shotime for a bad show. I think I watched like two or three episodes of the Showtime show and knew it was over. These aren't "skit" guys and even on the pod, their skits were more off-the-cuff ideas that were edited in post with sound filters and effects. Making them do skits and interview politicians was a waste of what they're decent at. They both became too sanitized and they were never good interviews.

It's telling Vice gave them the Mike Francesca interview, because that was probably their best one and the moment you knew they peaked. From then on, pod took a hit and the show was not funny at all.

As always though, they over-achieved like a motherfukker. I'm never going to hate on them because they did way more with that than anyone wanted to give them credit for. While they sucked, these dudes got to talk to Obama and shyt. nikkas came up from Tremont. shyt is crazy.

Folks will tune in to watch Carmelo and at least this give Mero something to latch onto. But these dudes were done once they left Vice. And by then the podcast was already on shaky ground and barely listenable.

No one cares about Victor and Desus can find a true lane once he comes out of the closet. There’s a lot of Bravo type shows he could host

I think Mero on bullshyt with this response(least in this clip). It was widely reported that the split was because of Victor. Showtime or whoever their show was with didnt like Victor. They wanted to keep running the show, but wanted Victor gone/take a more back seat role. There were reports Victor was cussing ppl out/making them feel uncomfortable etc. Deseus was cool with that, Mero, being closer to Victor, said no. So the show ended and Deseus and Mero split.

Even in that Judd Apatow story, Victor is involved. Desus probably didnt like how much power Victor had. Especially if Victor is Mero's dude, everything basically 2v1 :yeshrug:

Fake edit yea: I posted it earlier in this thread
When the news broke Tuesday that the comedy duo Desus Nice (a.k.a. Daniel Baker) and the Kid Mero (a.k.a. Joel Martinez) would end both their creative partnership and their excellent Showtime late-night show, many in the comedy world were perplexed. These guys had a great gig, were landing guests like Presidents Biden and Obama and Denzel Washington, and seemingly had the network’s full support. But the rift that led to the implosion was pretty clear to insiders at the show.

Here’s what happened, according to five separate sources. Shortly after Thanksgiving, Showtime asked that Victor Lopez, the duo’s longtime manager and a credited producer on Desus & Mero, no longer attend tapings or appear in meetings. Lopez had been accused of a$$hole behavior, including bullying, screaming and generally making people on the show feel bad. Several formal complaints had been made, according to two sources. (Showtime and reps for the duo declined to comment; Lopez could not be reached.)

Desus agreed with Showtime and wanted Lopez out, but Mero is said to have felt loyal to their manager, who had been with the Bronx-raised duo for years. The comics first became big on Black Twitter, were brought together for a podcast for Complex, then another pod, Bodega Boys, that led to a show on Viceland, and then, for the past four seasons, on Showtime. Lopez was there for pretty much all of it, and Mero resisted booting him, I’m told.

As the dispute metastasized, people started noticing. The duo stopped posting podcast episodes in November, which raised eyebrows among fans. Mero quietly left their longtime agent Christina Bazdekis, and lawyer, Victoria Cook, and signed in February with WME and Ziffren Brittenham by himself. The stars talked less and less during the show’s fourth season, which concluded in June. Desus hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live solo earlier this summer. Last week, responding to some fan tweets suggesting the end of the podcast, Desus said that their followers “deserved better than this ending.” And at the MLB All-Star Game’s celebrity softball exhibition last weekend, I’m told they arrived and participated in activities separately. Then, Tuesday, the announcement from Showtime. Desus is already teasing a new project.
