the clip is less than 4 minutes :wtb:

He was their manager from jump. Victor did much of the leg work in the business rooms because by Desus' own admission, he's an a$$hole when it comes to negotiations and general business stuff and that it was easier for execs to talk to Mero because Mero's personality is more affable. Somebody was getting them those meetings with Apatow and the connections they had. Whatever the fallout came from Showtime hasn't affected Mero or Victor at all (if anything, Showtime doesn't even really exist anymore the way it did when they were there)

I know they took the Showtime money, but do you think they could have made more, long term, had they continued on cable/free tv?

went to open the app for the first time in like a year yesterday and it literally doesn't work anymore lol.

I didn't even care to look into why/what happened bc I only went on there for about 3 shows they made.

But Nero's stories paint a somewhat different picture. I'm really starting to think that Desus was just tired of dealing with Nero and Victor and wanted to do his own thing. If it was simply about Desus wanting to go Hollywood why would he turn down a Judd Apatow movie? There was definitely some other stuff going on.
Believe it or not, a simple movie cameo can cause actors to be typecasted for the rest of your career and it can be difficult to have casting agencies see you in any other role (i.e. Seth Rogen has damn near always played a fat lazy stoner in Judd’s movies, Danny Trejo, etc) and that goes double when you’re black (see: Method Man and Redman’s post-How High opportunities). If he didn’t want to be a packaged deal with Mero in that world, then yea that makes sense he turned down a cameo because it’s clear that is not where Desus wants to be. He wants Trevor Noah and Kevin Hart appeal without the 10-15 years it takes to get there. That actually is consistent with what seems to be the issue - Desus was pickier with the projects they agreed to than Mero was.

That's a jump you gotta take. Vice let them do whatever but they got burnt out there too just cuz the resources weren't as plentiful (Vice is a weird channel where there's maybe 1 show I'll fukk with, but it's on every week and it's followed up by another show I watch every week).

Some would say the show wasn't as funny but look at the interviews they were getting on Showtime. That started becoming a spot for entertainers on their promo tours. That will pay off (or has already) big time for whatever they wanna do. They just approach networking differently

I'm probably done with Showtime altogether once The Chi ends unless Nas/Sacha keep making Mass Appeal docs (and I have Paramount Plus so I can just watch there)

For the record, Paramount absorbed Showtime, so now it's just part of their bundle and it's called Paramount+ With Showtime.

They were a duo. With damn near every venture they had they were gonna be packaged as such. That alone kinda typecasts you because when you see one, you expect to see the other (lazy comp, but think Kenan & Kel. When Kenan got the SNL gig, we just expected Kel to be there too and when it didn't happen, alarms went off in our heads).

But yeah, Desus is super picky and what he wants, I don't know (if it's a late night talk show gig, clearly Comedy Central settled on getting Jon Stewart back and I don't see ABC or CBS creating another late night show). In the short term, Mero's building a resume of credits, which in their industry never hurts unless you're doing some trash ass shyt.

Desus was the wittier of the 2 on the pod but if you’re talking being on TV/in a movie, I’d go with Mero
Yeah to me Desus is better in a writer's room while Nero gets by more on personality and is more suited to being in front of the camera.
