A lot of people who died of AIDS complications died of things like pneumonia, which a healthy person in the US would survive because the body is ready for it. In Eazy's case, any minor sickness he had would have been significantly worse and depleted him in ways that wouldn't happen with a healthy person. You can lose multiple pounds from a common cold if you had HIV in the 1980s and early 1990s.

HIV meds prevent AIDS from replicating itself in the body, which means the white blood cells survive and start eliminating the virus in your blood. It becomes a stalemate where you still have the virus' cells, but if those cells release any of the virus into your blood it gets murked by your immune system. That keeps the viral load of HIV so low that the person can live a perfectly healthy life and not infect others. You could drink a pint of Magic Johnson's blood and your odds of getting HIV would be quite low.
