I'd be igged about being forced to have health insurance too if i didn't want it, but it's like every other form of insurance, you don't miss it until you don't have it. I look at my homeboy, he's like 32, healthy, exercises, vibrant, dude goes for a checkup and finds out he has stage 4 cancer - on that rare occasion when something like this pops up, yall really think you're gonna eat that bill? Um no, the rest of the taxpayers will.

And the prices yall are being charged aren't much different than what most employers offer, I have great rates (~80 month) right now at my job, but that's not the norm, my previous employer I was paying $220/month - I don't see the difference. Health care costs from providers are the issue.

I have a friend similar situation with the cancer, picture health and boom.

That said people can generally do what they want but like you said if they think they can eat the bill on in a fairly short hospital stay

The other part of this that where healthcare needs to start is prevention not once you have some ailment. So again if you guys are paying get the check-ups and make sure your health is good.

I agree with that completely. However, I'm willing to accept the tax with faith and firsthand knowledge that the program is better than nothing. Same with aca. The government, in theory and by law, is responsible for social welfare so that burden is naturally passed on to tax payers. That's my stance but reality is often less than ideal especially when it comes to governments. Give it time and participate diligently if you want to make a change. The answers aren't simple to these issues.

First and foremost, most of you hollering for single payer don't even know how a single payer system would work. That is fine, and I believe that there needs to at least be a public option as well and single-payer would probably be ideal. But even if that is what was passed, it would not be fully enacted until like 2018 at earliest. Vermont is using the option for states to create a single payer plan of their own and it won't be instituted until 2017. Vermont's case is special demographically anyhow.

The fact of the matter is, before the PPACA employers could reject people with preexisting conditions. You could not stay on your parent's program until you were 26. Medicaid (which is what most people envision----Medicaid for all) was not offered as extensively. You guys are complaining about being forced to pay for something that contributes to the overall betterment of society. Europeans pay for it out of their taxes. You pay for Social Security out of your taxes and the people on it now are getting way more than they ever put in.

Of course some people's premiums are going up---they were going to go up anyway. But the main reason it's going up is because POOR PEOPLE have been added to your pool. If you're seriously not getting subsidies and you're poor, you probably live in a red state that refused to extend medicaid (which more or less defeats the law). @beaniemac and the rest of you people complaining I'd love for you to state exactly how much you make and where you live and I can calculate on the spot how much you're paying for healthcare. Quik is encouraging straight up ignorance just because he didn't get the bill he wanted.
