I will say in real time everyone around my age fukked with EM...

But again I was 12 in 2002 so :pachaha:

Yeah

Fast forward to today and everybody likes to shyt on him but in real time back then, people listened to Eminem's music

shyt, before Eminem really got popular, I remember back right before the Slim Shady LP came out, hip hop heads was fukking with his freestyles heavy, people admired/respected his talent as a lyricist and emcee, even if they didn't connect with his story and or like his gimmick, they still could acknowledge his talent as an emcee and lyricist.

He did fall off hard though and probably the hardest from an emcee of his level of popularity

Eminem from 99' to 02' was prime years

But then Encore came in 04' and the run was over; the juice he had before was gone and has never returned

Yeah

Right before he left MTV - TRL, he also had his own late night show (The Late Show) that came on like after Jay Leno and Conan shows on NBC. Carson's show was like in that third slow and came on like at 1 in the morning.

That ran from like a decade or some shyt, then he made the move to The Today Show (the NBC morning show) with Hoda, Kathie Lee (she ain't on there no more), Al Roker etc etc. He's been on the Today Show for a long time now too.

Does Eminem have the worst subject matter in rap history?
It was a brilliant strategy to separate himself from the teeny bopper of that Era. And it worked in real time

He was flowing hard on that one. :manny:

Crazy to think "The Real Slim Shady" was made at the last minute because Jimmy Iovine thought the MMLP didn't have a lead single. If he hadn't pushed so hard, this song and "The Way I Am" wouldn't exist. :ehh:
"The Way I Am" is undeniable classic, 5 mics!

This too. He waa basically letting it be known that he wasn't trying to be one of those gimmick celebrities that were running rampant in the industry.

Plus with him running with Dre it got the attention of actual hip hop heads rather than just little white kids and teenagers, although he had plenty of them as fans, he was mostly considered a legit hip hop act

Em is a great talent with a nice catalog of music. But keeping it a buck, he was gimmicky and also benefitted from cacness like them. I still respect the strategy and believe it helped in real time.

Absolutely, especially in hindsight now that the internet is bigger and we are now seeing what those Em fans grew up into.

But it was a good strategy nonetheless and it's clear as day that he had an impact on hip hop in particular. Wasn't a flash in the pan early 00s celebrity like the boy bands he was dissing
