yea that was one of them, I do think 50 is attracted to that type of business/industry though; possibly for the challenge
Or cuz ain't sh*t else popping for him. Music? No. Headphones? No. Might as well try to piggyback off his best friend's business.

So after Mayweather said he won't work with Golden Boy after Schaefer left, he agrees to a rematch with Maidana today...and Golden Boy will promote it.

I thought he was going to promote himself.

The fight will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, which has promoted all of Mayweather's fights since 2007. The reason why that is noteworthy is because last month, in the wake of the resignation of Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer, who is very close to Mayweather, Ellerbe told ESPN.com that they would no longer work with Golden Boy.

"Absolutely not," Ellerbe said when asked if they would work with Golden Boy minus Schaefer.

Mayweather himself said before the first fight with Maidana -- when Schaefer's future at the company was in question -- that the only reason he worked with Golden Boy was because of Schaefer. Mayweather does not have a good relationship with Golden Boy president and co-founder Oscar De La Hoya, who has taken the reigns of the day-to-day business of the company.

But the decision to remain with Golden Boy came down to business. Mayweather Promotions is not licensed in Nevada, and although it could have hired somebody else, Golden Boy is one of the biggest promotional companies in the world, has loads of experience with Mayweather events, the MGM and the sponsors, not to mention that Maidana is promoted by Golden Boy.

So let me get this straight...Mayweather can supposedly promote himself except in Nevada, but every fight he's ever had since 2007 has been in Nevada...despite massive pushes to get him to fight at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

So, all this talk about him being able to promote himself is kind of weak, since he always chooses to fight in Vegas where he's not allowed to promote..and thereby uses Golden Boy.

haymon is not in contro
so who is? who's the money behind GB & TR.

I'm sure he wants too but lets not ignore the politics in Boxing right now. theres 2 factions, GPB & TR. and they control every fighter not named floyd that matters. you got GB fighters fighting only GB fighters and the same with TR. So yeah, floyd can start a real promo company but who does he have that the public is familiar with? he's trying to introduce fighters from his gym on his undercards and nobody is popping off yet.

its not as simple as just putting up the money and doing the work, you have to have fighters and opponents that the public cares about and right now arum and oscar own all of them. Its remored that since Schaefer left GB that he's working with floyd on a company but truthfully winning in boxing promo if your not GB or TR is like winning in politics if your not repub or dem

so how do you think 50 cent's company would do in that environment. i think he's a better business man than floyd but if it's almost impossible for floyd's company to make it then it doesn't bode well for 50's.

50 would need a lot of money up front to secure contracts with venues and vendors...and to draw the best talent. But that's the toughest part. Because even if you can deal with the strong arm stuff...attracting and signing the best talent is the hard part.

I also have to think that companies like Golden Boy and Top Rank have such a deep-rooted network of relationships with trainers and gyms around the world that they probably get "first dibs" on any talented prize fighter. But I'm just guessing. I mean if you have been running a boxing gym in the midwest for 50 years and you have a talented kid...who might you push that kid towards? A brand new promoter/agency?...or a group like Top Rank that you've been dealing with for 35 years?

:yeshrug:

But I really don't know. I'm just guessing here.

Fam, I'm inside SMS promotions. To me it's already impressive what we have done at this stage, but I'm trying to understand how were going to get to the level of doing PPV events. I just don't see it right now, ESPECIALLY after gamboa got that work..

It ain't even about the best talent. It's about marketability, how they build a fighter up (the way they did canelo) and also about an ethnic following. Those things sell PPV.

Better, he became more effective as rounds progressed, that trend will continue.

After the first round Chinos flurries land less and less. On top of that half of the punches were illegal. When Floyd threw he landed, often and clean. I don't see chino being able to do more than what he did already
