I thought his recent verse on Education was dope

:manny:

@A Tribe Called Quest ™ make sure you check out The Ecstatic. It's not as good as Black on Both Sides, but it's slept on. There's a lot of production on there from dope guys like Madlib, his brother Oh No, Dilla, and even the Neptunes are on there. It's low on guest features and has a very different sound than BOBS but it's a good album

Also I'm sure you've heard the Black Star (duo of Mos Def and Talib Kweli) album by now? It dropped about a year before BOBS.

Also this wasn't on an album but is one of his best songs

:psalute:
The remix fire too :wow:

Edit: :ohhh: don’t know why the video says 2005. The remix was on the single in 98.

Mos Def is almost a perfect MC, :ohhh:. I think if he had a more ignorant/hood persona he would be revered like the other legends we revere in hip hop, as sad as that is. Him being kind of eclectic with his style made certain people not even bother with him, me included to a degree, smh.

I could never really get into Talib tho, he is good but he isn't excellent like Mos

I forgot Mos in my top 20 :snoop:

Mos Def, Common, and ATCQ were the first artists I checked out when I went back. I used to think my homeboy was corny listening to artists like Deltron 3030, who I could never get into, in middle/high school while everyone else is listening to Jeezy, Wayne, Kanye, Ross, etc. He put me on to Beats, Rhymes and Life which then led me to Mm.. Food which then led me to Blackstar and I thought that Mos was the dopest mf ever. They way he just casually rapped had my mind blown.

I think it’s one of those situations where they filmed the music video a few years after the song came out like how they did with Cap and Winter Warz

The video of Mos excited about DOOM is one of my favorites

Mos Def has an insane catalog. Blackstar is some of the best hip hop ever recorded. That rawkus era was legendary
That era got a lot of cats into hip hop.

I was lucky to go to a middle school where ever school dance was all hip hop and that’s all anyone listened to. Our middle school dances has Hail Mary, ATLiens, Do For Love, Hypnotize, If i Ruled the World, and that’s that whole era.

But my high school was way bigger and had a lot of different middle schools funnel into it. A lot of cool people I met in high school got into hip hop through that prime Rawkus era with Black Star, Mos, Kweli, Hi Tek, Monch, Big L, etc. And everyone talks about the Soundbombing series by Lyricist Lounge 2 was underrated as hell.

Looking back I’m real surprised Kanye didn’t sign with them since they weren’t out of business yet.
