I’ve been to a lot of therapists and a lot of psychiatrists. Not all are created the same. You gotta find one that works well for you. Somebody told me that, if after the first 3 sessions you’re not satisfied, find another therapist. I’ve found that to be good advice

Mental illness and depression is not discussed enough in the Black community.

A lot of people don't believe in going to psychiatrist; however, sometimes you have to seek professional help.

You can't simply pray every problem off, sometimes a little clinical help is needed with that.
A lot of people don’t have medical.

Don't have money to waste on them & I have no insurance currently. I use to have to go in HS because my parents paid for it but I swear I got nothing out of it. I remember my mother crying after I said I had thoughts of wanting to off myself but I didn't feel anything really. Pretty sure I have undiagnosed EDD along with a bunch of other shyt.

You greet your therapist and she gives a rundown of her educational background.

Explains to you that your convos are confidential, but if you're threatening the lives of others or yourself then she has to contact someone depending on the severity.

They ask you if you've ever self-harmed or contemplated suicide.

And that's really to understand how serious your issues are.

Then you go into a rundown of:
Family history
Drug or alcohol history
Traumatic history

Then after that they ask you why you believed you needed to see a therapist.

You give them your reasons.

Start talking about your life and why your there.

And most of that is just so they can understand who you are first before even offering any advice.

My therapist made it a point to give examples of her own life struggles so that I can understand that I shouldn't be ashamed of seeing a therapist.

Says she sees a therapist as well, and has been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder.

She gave me a mini-assessment and based on what I said she says I'm severely depressed.

I think the more I go the deeper I can go into my self-esteem issues.

Overall the session was 2 hours.

no need to check out your mental health when you can hit the Quan :stylin:
Let’s say I go to the doctor for gout. I wouldn’t look at my doctor funny if he said he had gout too. However, if I went to my doctor for herpes and he pulled out an anecdote, I wouldn’t care for that.
