Other MC’s were selling more and had more critically acclaimed albums than reasonable doubt and vol 1.

Rae- Cuban Linx first week sales were higher than both Jays. Obviously heralded more in real time. Obviously Wu was bigger too

Prodigy- both infamous and hell on earth were rated higher.

Ghost- Ironman debuted higher than RD and rated higher. obviously Wu was bigger too

One thing I like and respect about Jay...he came for the crown day one.

Depends when you say his "Day 1" is. He came in the game as Jaz's understudy so if we really start at Day 1 he wasn't going for the crown back then.
