That was one of my issues before I chunked the dueces to the whole concept....but yeah if you're a believer it should be all or nothing and I've never met one person who's all in even tho they claim to be

As I stated before, Jesus, himself, didn't follow the text 'to the letter'.

That's how the Pharisees tried to trap him and they failed.

Anyone trying to follow the text that way is actually damned by it and will fail.

The slavery talked about in the Bible is not the same type of slavery that are ancestors went through. Exodus 21:16, kidnapping a man and selling him was actually punishable by death.

Often slaves were poor people who had to sell themselves just to survive. Or in some cases ones found guilty of stealing who were not able to pay it all back could be sold as slaves to pay off the debt.

And I think y’all are interpreting Exodus 21 wrong too. A slave that was beat to death was actually to be avenged. If the slave was maimed, loosing a tooth or eye, he was set free. The Bible does not condone excessive abuse of people.
:mjlol: at people dapping this.

bu bu but this is good slavery. if found out your sibling was enslaved the way you describe right now would you be cool with that?

Slavery often was a choice back then under gods law. So if that’s what they decided to do, that’s there choice

That's the point: 'Slavery' back then had an entirely different context than 'right now', or even 500-600 years ago.

Didn't even mean the same thing. For most people, back then, slavery was a step up the social ladder and gave them safety. We're talking back to the Iron Age, breh. Like Conan the Barbarian-type stuff going on. Cats would LITERALLY be food if they weren't a part of some other person's household/city/Nation and THAT'S what 'slavery' provided among other 'benefits'.....like survival from starvation.

Equating the two is a disingenuous argument and only entertained by those with no idea of the socio-cultural milieu of the ANE.

The text NEVER states that 'slavery is good'. It just reports it's existence in myriad forms.

Meh.....I don't put much stock in those. Too subject to 'interpretation' which is subjective. Rather read about the experiences of those who came before me and see if there's any insight I can gain from them that I can apply today and in the future.
